Will W10 work with the multitude of programs i have? Eg, Quickbooks. Photoshop, Illustrator etc. I seem to remember an issue with W8 for Quickbooks.  Plus any cad programs?
Think I'll probably delay install until i hear about all the disaster stories.

Haven't done Inventor2015 yet.

it seems that it will a continuous stream of updates, not just one big hit of bug fixes and updates...

the general advice is that if it works in windows 7 and 8, it will work with windows 10...

a quick search on the vendor's website should be all you need to confirm...

but, YMMV...

should work the same...  windows 10 has features that allow for better snapping of open windows to different areas of each screen...

if you are eligible for the free upgrade on a PC/laptop/tablet and you install it, Windows 10 will be free and supported for the life of the machine that it was installed on.

you have one year to access this free upgrade.  after that, you will have to pay for a Windows 10 license.

no subscription for Windows 10.

I was just watching the vids from Paceman above & i noticed on the one about the tour of W10, if he wanted to remove the W8 type menu, then once he clicked to change it said he had to sign out & then sign back in for the change to happen.

Does this mean you have to be signed into MS for W10 to work

If thats the case, i dont think i'll be upgrading anytime soon. Whilst i dont have any state secrets, hackers have proven they can get just about anywhere & this may be the ultimate challenge

scott (the guy in the videos) is a microsoft employee, so he most likely has a microsoft account to take advantage of microsoft service offerings (onedrive, etc).

I pulled out my laptop to see if MYOB 2013 could be installed.
I need SP3 for, wait for it, XP.

Every other windows platform that I have owned [ now on 7] has the option to run at classic.
I don't need transparent windows that slide across the screen etc etc
I need not tiles, gizmos, auto reporting of where I am, the weather etc.
Every install I do I get rid of excess crap like media player, messenger, that live Shit etc
I'll give it a try and see what happens.
Can always format.

I'm a little dubious to do a W10 upgrade on an OS that may have underlying issues.  So I would assume it would be best to do a clean install of everything now prior to the upgrade, just in case the new OS carries over some legacy issues from the old OS.

After your free upgrade, I'm wondering what will happen "if" your computer screws up and you need to format and do a clean install.  Do they give you a licence key so that you can do a fresh install, I hope so.  Or do you then have to fork out the $119.00 for a new user licence?

Eventually a time will come to upgrade to W10, or maybe to an Ubuntu version, or back windows 3.XX.
