It will be interesting to see where that leaves the Prado. Given the current liking for single chassis for multiple platforms e.g. Ranger & Everest, Navara & Pathfinder, Dmax and Mux, Triton & Challenger and now Hilux and Fortuner. I wonder if Toyota will decide to exit the Prado...
I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go...

I agree D4D, if it has done capability off road and with the right accessories it will look pretty good. wish they brought out the late model 4wd with sliding cargo windows like the 80!

Why the seven seats as Standard? The back two probably will be for little kiddies only and would need to be removed if this was to be a touring wagon.

best  if  they were not there in the first place.

Do any of you people with seven and eight seat wagons ever use them as such.

I have been waiting for the day that Toyota finally release the fortuner here after driving them in Asia but ... That back window!!!  Think we will be sticking with our 150 until they update it, never know but the photos may not be doing it justice, will see come October.

Yup.. It's the reason we got the Prado and not a dual cab. With a family of 5 it doesn't take long: picking a mate up after school, grandparents coming to visit from overseas, cousins visiting etc.

Also the reason we got the Drifta drawers. It literally is a 5 minute job to pull them out and out the rear row back in. Love my removable rear row.

I like the look of the Fortuna too but the space under the bonnet looks limited for any extras

Earlier variants of this thing have been avaiable for yonks O/S can't see it affecting the Playdoh. If you have ever been to Doha in the Middle East you will see more playdohs than anything else!
Here for a good time, not a long time!

We have just sold a 7 seater, it was used in the daily run about as a 7 seater, my Mrs would always put the eldest of 3 in the back. The Physical Boundary is a good thing to stop fights. Plus we often had another kid to shift about.

It's kinda funny how all these companies keep reinventing the ute based wagon. Years ago the 4Runner was a hilux with a wagon body, the pathfinder was a navara, the raider was a courier etc, then they tried to make all these SUVs based on car dynamics and took out the off road component, now they are coming back into Aus after realising that we do actually want things that work like a dual cab outside, but a wagon on the inside.

Personally we use our 7 seater pretty regularly, as above somewhere with a family of 5 it'd be a complete pain in the buttocks to take a second car to bring a mate along or help out someone else by dragging one of their kids around. Gone are the days when you could just squeeze an extra bod or two in the back seat.

Interesting:

3000kg towing capacity.  Why would you buy a Prado...?

LOL...true.  Never bent anything on the Patrol despite my best efforts...!

I read that too Swannie.  Still that's more than the Prado is rated at, manual or auto.

I wonder how many people buy a Ranger or similar bus purely for their rated towing capacity and not because its a dual cab ute?  Can't help but wonder if they just gave the Prado a reasonable towing capacity if that wouldn't make it more appealing to buyers in this end of the market?  The current Prado is a brilliant vehicle otherwise...

I don't tow but maybe one day I will so I follow the discussions on towing capacity.

One wise man said to me that the figures quoted are maximums. And that doesn't mean all the time.

I was keen to see the Everest until they announced the pricing  ???.  Always thought a Prado would be nice, but I will be seriously looking at this now.  Might even be one of the first to own one.

All they've done recently is remove the built in safety margin to take it right up to the absolute maximum in order to get the 3000kg capacity. Because it looks good in the sales brochure.

I bet  its a seven seater for 7 dwarfs.....
Life's wasn't meant to be fair.
Well so I've been told. ..

With 3 kids, is hard to contemplate going back to a 5 sweater, even if it's the luxury of having 1 kid in each row so they don't fight to much,

Most 5 sweaters are for tight for 5 people,

Will be interesting where the prado fits I to the scheme of things,
