Just read this story about a nutter with a gun at Byfield national park aiming a gun at campers and supposedly shooting at others in the national park.  Maybe be a little vigilant if camping in the area.

Has anyone else ever had any issues like this?

There has been a hermit up there for years,  it's not what you would say is the popular part of byfield which most campers would go.  He has a parcel of land up off Kellys Landing (sand fly central of camp sites)  If you wander onto his property or he thinks you might be there to take something of his he has been known to fire a few warning shots.

Man had me worried when I saw the title. There's a few swaggers from Mexico tripping around atm and thought you might have been talking about 1 or 2 old farts we know;D

But don't think either of them would be carrying a gun with them.....

We pulled over on the side of the road sleeping in the back of the cruiser, just before the Nullarbor when my wife sat up at 4am and told me "there's a man outside" then went back to sleep. I jumped up, turned on the lights, had a look around with the spottie, couldn't see anything.  I grabbed the axe and didn't sleep again.   Next morning she couldn't remember any of what had happened or remember telling me about a man.

She did it to me again on Fraser telling me there was a dingo in the tent. Turns out she sleep talks

The guy up near Maytown used to shoot at people, but I think he's gone now...arrested on murder charges, even though they've never found the missing man's body.

When I lived in Yeppoon, I used to do a lot of trail bike riding in Byfield. I always had the feeling someone was watching in that area, and occasionally came across evidence of some interesting "crops" in a couple of the more secluded valleys.
