Hi guys, trying to see if anyone has the oztent Rv tents and keep it on the roof.

Our NEW tent I brought 5 months ago we've never slept in has MOULD all the way through it. Tried to clean it and no go. Was an oztrail tourer.

Anyhow with the new car and much bigger rack I can fit a oztent Rv.

Some sites claim its a waterproof bag. This has to stay on the car 24x7 no choice as it can't fit anywhere else.

Anyone had one of these on the roof. And in fun weather? I'm pretty good at looking after things but would prefer to get something that is well protected.

We've put a new weather proof bag on the roof which has dual layers, but it is only 1300 long so won't fit a oztent.

Curious if anyone has an oztent Rv on the roof maybe even permanent.

Justin, when I had my rv5 on the roofrack and drove through a couple of hours of rain water definately soaked through the bag. If I kept it I wS going to get a bag made out of taurpaulin type material.

I have an RV5 tent (Thanks Swannie) and an OZTENT Foxwing awning.

I drove back from the MIL's place, we got rained on the whole way home which was about 3 hours.

The bag got saturated and so did the tent. I set it up the next day and the outside of the tent was wet, but the inside was mainly dry.

When you put the tent away, you roll it in such a way that the floor is the outer cover.

I think no matter what the brand or reputation, in that amount of time in the elements, a bag will get wet and no matter what the brand of tent, it will mould up.
best to go for a hard container, and air on a regular basis.

When I bought my oztent the oztent rep told me to travel with the zip facing down in rain to reduce water ingress. Never had it out in filthy weather though.

Yeah same thoughts as me.
I think getting a bag made especially for it.

Will also find the sun will destroy the bag over time if left constantly on the roof of a vehicle  :'(

Fire Fox  what about a sealed light weight case cover pod made from polycarbonate rolled welded or folded into a tube / box and capped [ plastics suppliers ] then put in with it a moisture absorbing tub to help soak up condensation ..

Mate of mine had a custom bag made for his Oztent so that everything goes in and is completely water/dust proof. Still goes in the original Oztent bags first as well to be sure
Always meant to do the same but too lazy and never got around to it
