Second Spare on Camper

Hey guys

Just doing some prep for the Gibb

I will be taking a second spare for the Dmax i was just wondering what the concensus was on taking a second spare for the camper trailer i run 235/75/15 on the camper at the moment dunlop Road grippers so a pretty common size

Any opinions thoughts would be appreciated

My tyres and rims are all the same for the CT and the 100 series. If all goes well, we will be taking the CT up the Cape later on this year. I carry three spares in total which is an overkill but my BIL only carries one spare but we share the same wheel and tyre sizes so that is why I have extra.

TBH I reckon one spare should be OK if the tyres are all good (including spare) but I would defo be carrying a decent tyre plug repair kit.

I am guessing the rims at not interchangeable between the rig so in effect you plan to take 4 spares which would be handy!
We helped numerous people with flat tyres whilst on the gibb.
One thing to consider is weight you might be carrying that may contribute to getting a flat.
The satellite phone and a list of phone numbers was the best help in getting people back on the road. One car we helped blew 3 tyres at once had 2 spares but had no communication equipment at all so were sitting in the middle of the road.

I have rigged a Toyota wind up spare tye carrier under the rear of the Heaslip. With the existing spare mount on the front that gives me 2... and as it uses the same wheels as the Jack I can effectively carry 3 if I need to.
The only down side to the rear spare is that it reduces the departure angle, but probably no more of a concern than a rear water tank, and shouldn't be a problem in places like the Gibb.

That's a great idea...and it won't break either coz it's toyota!

I had a choice of Toyota (chain) or Ford (wire) wind up.
Went with the chain, as the wire ones have been known to break...
