Daughter's Toshiba Satellite L850 has blown the motherboard (from water)
everything else (appears) OK
not keen on sourcing a part from overseas so does anyone know where I could get one here in Australia?

If it's seen water, I reckon I'd bin it. You could spend the money and effort on a new m/b, and still not get it going.

Is it covered under your household insurance?

The Toshiba repair agents are located in Milton.

We use them at work and they are very good.

+1.  use the money to buy a new laptop... not worth the pain...

MrCruza

It's worth getting a quote. We've had a couple resurected after coffee spills for not too much coin. The 850 is a fairly basic job internally.
Cheers, John.

yeah I'm giving that owner of the damaged laptop a call to see what they want to take it off the market this weekend and I'll do a screen swap and transfer the data
Otherwise yeah the others are right, might just get a new one at those prices.

IMHO any laptop under about $1K is simply not worth buying.

Probably not worth it, though we did get 4 years out of the last one, so at about  $3.60 a month for a 15" laptop it was reasonable value for our home use . ;D

paid $450 for a Toshiba lap top nearly 6 years ago, needed minor repairs to the keyboard and there was Toshiba located in Perth, so I imagine they will be located in most cities - oh yes this reply was from the same lap top that cost a lot less than $1000

She is in uni for film & tv so this one has good graphics and has been pretty good otherwise
missed out on that damaged one on ebay so we're going to play safe and get the quote from the repair agent and probably take that route because.......
found out today she has not been backing up the drive......

A Toshiba Satelitte Pro is a business grade laptop. If you can get one cheap all the better.

Unfortunately they really don't make them like they used to. In recent years the low end laptops have become throw away items.
Cheers, John.
