apparently the main front is 2 hours away.. **** its windy enough now!

Anyone out for a drive this weekend, have chainsaw will spend weekend cutting..

The Alpine regions are expected to bear the worst of the windy conditions today.

VicRoads has warned that drivers on the Mount Baw Baw Tourist Road, near Vesper Road, Vesper, should take care travelling between Noojee and South Face Road.

"We have reports of trees and branches over the road," it says.

It says there may be delays getting through and drivers should seek an alternate route.

Weather Situation

A strong cold front will move through the State today. Strong and gusty northwesterly winds will turn westerly behind the front and ease later.

North to northwesterly winds around 60 km/h with DAMAGING peak gusts of 90 - 110 km/h are forecast for the South West, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts and parts of the North East forecast district during today, mainly over the coast and elevated areas. Wind gradually easing from the west during the afternoon and evening.

The strongest wind gusts recorded in Victoria up until 10:50am this morning were;

Mt Buller - 113 km/h

Aireys Inlet - 109 km/h

Wilsons Promontory and Mt William - 106 km/h

Mt Hotham and Yanakie - 104 km/h

Mt Gellibrand - 98 km/h

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
Keep clear of fallen power lines.

10:32am: Marie - a caller to radio station 3AW - is on board the Spirit of Tasmania which is about to dock at Davenport and says the ship has been battered by strong winds and swells.

"All of sudden there was one big wave and we all went sideways," she said.

Some passengers were knocked off their feet.

"There was one poor bloke who was sitting on a seat and went flying off the seat to the other side of the boat," she said.

She suspects a couple of truck trailers may have fallen over in the car park level of the ship.

"We were supposed to get off at 7.30am this morning, but now we're not sure when we'll get off."

Eight kayakers have been pulled from the water off Anglesea after apparently ignoring all the warnings and going for a paddle this morning;

I say Natural Selection on ****wits like this.. someone else has to put their life on the line to save them....

Yup.. They were talkin about it on radio this morning how they 'couldn't wait'..

Bells and the west coast is going to be going off this week with even bigger swells out on the outer reefs along there. There's a few big wave surfers from torquey and surrounds who will be all over it. Reality is the guys that are likely to be out there are pros and 7m swells aren't even that big in their world. The kayakers however seem a little mad heading out.

Lost lots of trees at the van park on Lake Nagambie  , stuff blown everywhere . Lots of cabins damaged lots of booking cancelled till repairs are finished .Then they can rake up the leaf trash all over the place

Just read more on this it was students and a couple of teachers surely the schools duty of care to its students would prevent this sort of thing happening pretty bad.

"We chose to hold this activity at Anglesea front beach because lifesavers were present," she said.

"This incident occurred early in the morning, well before [the bad] weather set in.

"Our staff monitored weather reports throughout the morning to ensure students were nowhere near the water by the time the weather changed," she said.

Weather data from the Bureau of Meteorology shows that at nearby Aireys Inlet, the wind was gusting at 89km/h at 6.30am on Tuesday and peaked at 109km/h at 9.30am.

It started raining  last night & its still falling down in a long slow wet spot over us . Good slow soaking rain . Just the thing for all the farmers that have dry sowed . The season is away

Yep looks like some good rain over the next few days. The missus is running in the Mother's Day Classic this morning, going to be a little damp.
