I'm going to look and hopefully buy a camper trailer on the weekend so I was thinking I need to organise insurance so that I'm covered as soon as I take ownership. I know with cars you can get an insurance cover note that covers you for a few days (don't recall timeline) and doesn't cost until you get home and then can finalise and pay for the insurance once you have taken ownership...

Now as this is my first camper trailer I've never had to deal with trailer insurance... I'm with AAMI for my vehicle, I haven't seen mention of camper trailer specifically on their website, only caravan or trailer...

Anyone know if any/all Insurance providers do a cover note for camper trailer?

Ring your current insurer ...

We have our cars with Allianz (Over Fifties), but my trailer has always been insured with RACV. As a CT,  it costs a little more than it did as a box trailer (like $20 p.a. more) for more than ten times the agreed value!

As already suggested try your current insurer. Mine didn't offer any cover, but was no problem with CIL.

Mate i have not seen a cover not issued for years

You ring up and they give you the policy number then the insurance is valid unless you cancel it in the cooling off period

I rang our car insurance company at that time on my way to picking up our camper and they provided the cover from the time I phoned them. (QBE and after having to make a claim for $7,000 damage to the camper I can say they were absolutely brilliant.)  Kevin

Anyone dealt with RACQ? They are the only one I've managed to get a quote online, rest require a phone call and I didnt get a chance to ring before 8pm when they all shut...

RACQ came back at $184/yr for $6500 and $1500 contents... that sound ok?

That's roughly what I'm paying for much the same cover. I was paying about $159 for an agreed sum of $450 for mine when it was a box trailer, same insurer - RACV.

I got a couple of quotes...

CIL is $204.80/yr but no cover of theft of contents.

RACQ with $1500 contents cover is $159.86/yr.

Both for $6500 cover.

Make certain that they are insuring it as a camper trailer, not as a caravan or box trailer.

Also check the clause about contents. Mine only covers items locked in the trailer.

I went through this a few weeks back.

As our trailer is home made (and 80 series) NRMA wouldn't touch it.

thanks to the recommendations of other MySwaggers I gave CIL a call for coverage.

A quick and very helpful chat (on a Saturday morning no less) to CIL and sorted. (and we chatted about our dogs too)

Insured for 5k. at a cost of $15 a month.

We couldn't be happier.
