Think this is somewhat relevant given the link to the outback and high country.  Who still has or has had horses. Were they for work or play? Did they have any unique features or talent?
Haven't been horse riding for years, but still admire their stature.
Add pics where you can.

hubby and I breed and train quarter horses and stock horses; mainly for cutting, drafting, stockman challenges and reining. I will add pics when I am on the computer if anyone is interested.

We have 3 quarter horses. 2 buckskin mares and a bay gelding.
I don't ride really, just the odd trail ride. It my mrs thing.

She does a bit of Reining. But nothing too serious.

I have 3 here and they mostly just get to live a lazy life in the paddock. Have had horses most of my life since I was about 5, had a few years with none when I lived in town

I grew up with horses and riding but as I turned into my teenage years I went away from them. The suspension on trail bikes was much better.  ;D

Going back a few years now I was involved in the Tom Quilty Endurance rides in NSW, I also had a first cross Quarter horse that would try and clean me up by running into any thing low lying ( tree branches ). cheers Ron.
The greatest gift you can give someone is your time, because when you give your time you are giving a portion of your life that you will never get back.

Well, strip my gears and call me Shiftless.

Reminds me of an old joke.

Q. How do you become a millionaire?

A. Start with two million $ and buy a horse!

We babysit our daughters two horses on and off splitting between our back yard and hers, both acreages.
She has a retired standardbred gelding and thoroughbred mare.
She wants to get into horse archery and needs a big plodder for that, like a Clydie or Percheron. The standardbred is getting too old though he can handle the archery, but the thoroughbred is too flighty for the noise.
She needs to get rid of the thoroughbred mare first, though it has good bloodlines and won around $30 000 and her brother is still  doing well, both from the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.
I have a total riding experience of 2 minutes on a hire horse that would not move, but after years of the daughters Pony Club I am pretty comfotable around normal sized horses, but these coldblooded horses are a different matter, they are bloody huge.

Beautiful mine don't look nearly as lovely as that all out in the paddock with some dread locks at the moment which seem never ending but I love them all the same.

We have two Gypsy cob geldings which my wife uses for carriage driving, pleasure and combined driving competition and getting another one soon that we can ride. They are well looked after horses

He's not mine, he belongs to my niece. I have been up at my brothers the last three weekends building cattle yards. He is the lawn mower in the house paddock at the moment, I'm not normally a horse person but he is great
