Why in my suburb do a fairly large percentage of streets have the concrete footpath on one side of the road and the streetlights on the other side of the road. It occurred to me today when walking along the footpath and nearly getting spiked in the eye by a palm frond type thing that if it was dark you wouldn't have noticed it to avoid it.
