I would assume it contains the solenoids

Thanks I think you are correct,  I had assumed these were integrated into the housing.

Yep, this is the control box. It can either be mounted as you see it, if you are top mounting your winch, or you can remove and mount it close by, if under mount. I have this winch and it's mounted under my bar and we bolted the control box to the winch bracket, connected to the chassis rail, out of site.
We pulled it apart and sealed it thoroughly also. Suggest you do the same.

Go remote, life is easier. and you have a 20m plus range instead of a couple of metres of cable

Wouldn't just rely on remote only. Have both

Go remote, life is easier.

I saw a bloke winch his bar apart at Kakado once. It was night time in the campground and I wondered what the horrible noise was. He was sitting at his fire and the remote was in his glovebox. Something in the glove box was sitting on his remote switch & his winch was hardwired (always powered). It made a horrible noise and tore itself apart before he could get his car open and retrieve the switch.

That put me off the idea of remote winches.

my remotes have a switch on the side to turn the remote off/on, and I have an isolator in the hot wire to the control box.
Anybody who wires a winch up without an isolator needs to punch themselves in the face with an axe.

Yep, my mate felt like punching himself in the face after his son was playing with his remote (just like in the specsavers ad).
Wrecked his bar and burnt out the winch. Now the replacement is isolated  ;D

2 Easy remedies, disengage winch via the winch leveler after after use and turn off remote after use.

I have never had a problem with my remote being in the glove box.

Have read that some remotes could operate others winches.
My winch manufacturer recommends an isolation. Plus switches are cool !!!  :worthles:

I heard that too. Regardless, it's always smart to isolate a winch with a simple switch.
