I think that they may struggle with patenting aspects of their camper that share common features with their competitors. For example there is nothing unique about a poptop. The galley is very similar in concept with Adventure campers. In fact there is very little on offer that hasn't been done before

If I was in the market for one of Lifestyles AT campers, I would DEFINATELY pay the extra amount instead of settling for the XT Chinese rip off.

Just talking to the Lifestyle guys at the camping show, they were happy to hear ideas on some improvements, unlike the other guys at the MD. XT stand who literally said I had no idea what I was talking about, even though it was something pretty sensible

I agree ( although I already have one ), and the price difference is bugger all..

Even though they look exactly the same ( they do copy things pretty good ), it's when you look at the finer details that you see the difference ..

Good on them for having a go. It's a very political correct type comments from lifestyle.  Blaming the Chinese but we all know who shipped it there.  ;D

I don't think it will be the Chinese they have to worry about. Objections can and probably will be made to their patent applications by their competitors here in Australia.

Lifestyle could potentially be turning the camper trailer market into a litigious nightmare.

This is simply a shot across the bow to deter those who may wish to copy it. Applying for a patent and having it registered are two vastly different things.
I have been through the process somewhat, and unless you have a bonafide original idea AND lots of money to engage a international patent, lawyers etc, you will never stop someone from copying your product. And then if they do, you have to take action against them in their own country - that's if their govt gives a toss. Imagine not being able to speak the language, don't know the customs, not even a citizen - trying to sue some Chinese bloke!
Best to get your product out there quickly, with lots of publicity, and let everyone know you have the original and genuine product.
