Searched everywhere for the answer to this [wingepool included] but no ciger.

I have had Optus cable since its inception.
The NBN exterior box has been installed next to the Optus Box.

Can the NBN utlilise the existing cable within the house? or will newer cable be needed?

what is the existing cable?? photos?

I suspect existing cable in the house is coax (round connector with plug in the middle). If this is the case then no.

This might help a bit.

Bugger, I can see installation this costing a quid, I wanted the MBN "connection box" where my present setup is, rooms away from the outside box.
I need to be central for wifi to be effective everywhere.

Wont cost you much to get some cables run around under the house for outlets... then you wont want wireless anymore....

If only it was that simple, no room under the house, double story so can't go across the roof cavity.
Can't use plug in adaptors as the back [where it has to reach] is on a different switch board.
Looks like Cat 5 and a 100m roll.

Cat5 is only 10/100 get Cat6 its gigabit. Plus your normal telecommunications cable 2 pair etc that is in place is ok for home phones and cordless phones etc, you will only need the data cable for your modem/switch and computer points.

Sure you've thought about this already but in case, run a couple of data feeds at the same time. Cable is cheap - labour isn't. It will also allow the provision of phone and Internet on separate feeds for those suppliers who do it this way.
