Mods feel free to do with it what you like...

But anyone up that way who has or might have seen them.... Keep ya eyes out

QuoteA Brisbane man and his two sons who have been missing for several days after leaving on a driving holiday to Cairns may be stranded in outback Queensland, police say.

Steven Van Lonkhuyzen, 37, and his children Ethan, 7, and Timothy, 5, left their home at Lota on Brisbane's bayside about midnight on Thursday, December 11.

Police said the trio might be stranded in an off-road or isolated location after heavy rains across much of western and central Queensland over the past week.

Detective Acting Superintendent Owen Elloy said it was possible the trio had packed their trailer with camping gear and had headed off-road

It is believed the trio were taking an inland route to Cairns, travelling via Miles, Dingo and Charters Towers.

Steven Van Lonkhuyzen left Brisbane last week on a driving holiday.

They were expected to arrive in Cairns on December 15 but have not made contact with family or friends since last week.

They are travelling in a 1995 model white Mitsubishi Pajero, Queensland registration 426 MCZ.

When they left home they were towing a silver trailer, which was also visible when the car was spotted in Miles.

Anyone who may have seen the family or the vehicle in the last week is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Gone to a new home

There was a fair media/news beetup about this family over a week ago; as I hadn't heard any more I presumed they had turned up. Something defo wrong here. I really hope they turn up safely, don't need any more tragedies before Xmas.

Brutus

I never go fishing without telling someone where I am going and when I will be back. Any deviation to location or late return are called in on radio or phone. Still surprise me today that people don't do this. Same should apply to the out back. Alternatives would be some sort of EPIRB for those going to remote places where phone/radio service is unreliable.

Gee I hope they have found shelter and are safe.

Take it easy everyone over summer

Just to reiterate...

South West District acting superintendent Mick Bianchi said rescue crews had been searching the entire district – about a third of the state – for the missing family.
"They were hungry, we can only assume they ran out of provisions in the last few days, they are OK and we have some police and park rangers heading up there, to figure out the best way to bring them out," he said.
"I've been told the car is very much bogged, at least up to the axle."
He praised the family for staying with their car during the ordeal.
"If nothing else that is a good thing, because if they had left the car it may have been impossible to find them," Mr Bianchi said.

It's always great practice to stay with the vehicle. It is a lot easier to find a vehicle than a couple/few people. It also goes for people stuck in snow and the High Country.

A great ending.
