Tap change over on sink

Just wondering what taps people have used on the sink in a camper trailer when u have put a pump on the tank pics price n where u got them from would be good thanks

I think most have ether of these...  Can get them at most caravan parts shops or on line or ebay.  This first one is for hot and cold, which we have in our current camper, but you can get just a cold one.  In our previous camper we had the second one and it worked great also.  Cheaper then the first one.  Kevin

we have a full on hot water service and pressure pump system to kitchen that came with our Trackabout, but I have just bought one of these for the back of the Navara and it arrived the other day. Looks pretty good.

We went with a proper kitchen mixer, something like this from Bunnings: http://www.bunnings.com.au/mondella-wels-4-star-7-5l-min-chrome-cadenza-sink-mixer_p5002768 but it was even 'shorter' if that makes sense. Was about $50 - $70 but can't remember exactly.

Had to bung off the hot water line.

Make sure to check the max height of tap that your kitchen allows with tailgate opening/closing. Also your existing bench hole may not be big enough for some taps, as the hand pumps are 32mm from memory but domestic taps use a bigger hole. The box will say how big the bench hole needs to be.

The chrome tap looks nice but in hindsight I would think a tap with a twist knob is better for camping than a lever tap. We've had the lever pushed open once by luggage just as we left camp (and it was the one time we forgot to switch off the pump too) and you can work out what happened next.

I bought the 2nd tap in Kris & Kevs photo (cold only) from BCF. Can't remember exactly what it cost but maybe about $40ish.

However a much better idea is to use the 'hot' side of the tap to give you a supply of filtered water.
We did this with a 20 micron cleaning filter followed by a 1 micron bacterial filter. It is quick and convenient to use for drinks or cooking if we have water from unknown sources.


Oh yes!  I will get around to putting in a pump isolating switch near the gas bottle very soon. Rough roads moved stuff in the sink and levered the tap into the on position. Most water went down the drain fortunately.

We've got one of these and love it. Really handy for washing off feet, rinsing buckets etc.



Only problem we had was it was quite powerful, we solved the problem by zip tying a piece of chux over the end as an aerator (obviously changing it frequently).  Its not too much of a PITA but the trade off is worth it.  Having said that there probably an easy solution, but this seems to work for us

   Sorry about that, I missed the end of that post.


Firstly, I just used an existing filter and connected the outlet to the Hot tap inlet. Previously the filtered water went to an outside tap, which may have been fine for the original user who designed the setup, but we usually make a coffee or tea inside.





Now there is nothing wrong with that filter, it is just expensive to replace. (Easy and convenient though)


I finally installed normal domestic filters with replaceable cartridges, 20 micron to filter dirt, then 1 micron to filter bacteria.
Cheap to replace the internal cartridge, but just a bit more fiddle.
The water is all from the same tank and same pump.





If we had clean but smelly bore water, I could change the final filter to an activated charcoal insert to get rid of the sulphurous taste and smell.


If we could only get (say) Murray River type water, I wouldn't put it in the tank. It would stay in a plastic Jerry can and not go through the pump.
