try a usb memory stick formatted to the FAT32 filesystem...

your 500GB drive is probably not formatted to FAT32.  this can cause issues (if that is actually the case)...

Buy a big ass ipod. I have a 64gb & currently have 6+ days of music & only about 15% used. Biggest problem then becomes making playlists to suit the occasion

All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.

How do people do it ?

I don't have a playlist, but what's the easiest way to aquire heaps of songs........and the easiest way to choose and save your favorite playlist from them ??

I used to have a list of approx 1,000 songs ( on an old computer ) and remember it taking forever to play 10 secs of each song I thought was OK, then save it to a list, then run it thru a program that evened out the different sound levels, then stuck it on a CD.

that's the way...
The playlist is the easy part.. the equalling of the volume etc is the slow part, or converting all to similar format.
