Hi Guys
I have received an email say that the council wishes to close Pippi Beach to 4x4's. At the moment it is open for public comment. Make your voice heard at the following email address.

please write to General Manager, CVC, Locked Bag 23 Grafton 2460  or by email council@clarence.nsw.gov.au .

cheers

So it seems we may lose another beach in the near future :/ Seems the council in our area is more inclined to dis-encourage people by removing the things that actually attract people to the area (take for example the canoe centre they could banter alot more with that one i am sure) anyways if we can get enough numbers together hopefully we can prevent this closure. A mate of mine has started up this petition for those who are interested in signing it please do, the more we get the better chance we have of keeping our beaches and then in turn other attractions around the clarence valley open.

Tony James started the petition "Clarence Valley Council: Leave Pippi Beach open to privately owned 4WDs" and need your help to get it off the ground.
Will you take 30 seconds to sign it right now? Here's the link:

Thanks for posting kris.
I was just about to, ya beat me  ;D

Yeh 4wd26, it is only 800 meter long, doesn't really matter if is two grains of sand long.
There is a push to remove all vehicles from beach access across the state and mostly by a small groups that feel their own it.

Also I am pretty sure there is no beach pass fee for this area. http://beachsafe.org.au/beach/nsw044

I asked about the beach pass as it was part of the submission from the councillor
From the pics you can see the 800m does make a difference as to how vehicles drive, there is no line, and for 800 m who is going to drop pressures

Just being a stick in the mud here- I signed the petition and love driving on the beach

Looks like a beach permit is required off all beaches
Interesting for me was no mention of access to the beach south of brooms head to Sandon river- np jurisdiction which only leafs to more confusion

4wd26 I just found some of that info http://www.clarence.nsw.gov.au/cp_themes/metro/page.asp?p=DOC-IBQ-31-45-58 I have honestly always been led to believe that if you had the national parks pass you were fine to access obviously not :/ so pretty much if we are not locked out of an area nowadays we will instead have to pay a hefty price to access the area :/ Guessing that the section from brooms to sandon must be under national parks jurisdiction??

Also to note permit prices have doubled in under ten years?? is actually cheaper to get a npws pass lol

A little off topic here, but there seems to be a push to remove 4wd/camping from many parts around the country from minority users.
An eg, is Clarence valley Council having before them a petition to remove 4wd's from a popular beach in Yamba.
Proposal to close Pippi Beach to 4WDs

From the Article quoted above:

"A University of Sunshine Coast researcher suggested there were potential impacts on a hidden ecosystem of tiny animals that live among the grains of sand as a result of four-wheel-drives on beaches."

And I bet that person used a four wheel drive to get there and have a look.

Not saying this person started the petition but they seem to wheel out the same old whenever they talk about the northshore up here.
Don't hear about those blokes though when they approve a 15 level unit block on the rear dune though, causing shadows and stuffing up general sand movement.

A big impact at the moment is the asian (no racism intended, just a fact) families that are currently scouring the beach for pipis at present and taking home hundreds upon hundreds of them in styro foam boxes...........like a professional gathering and packing crew.

It least I got to vote yes in the petition.

Isn't Pippi Beach only 1.6km long ? Not really much of a drive that ... it'd be a nice walk though.

Sorry, but if someone wants to go beach driving there are far better options a little bit further from the centre of town.

Done, No idea where this is but I would be pissed off if they tried the same with Cable Beach for example. Good luck all.

I'm sick of these idiots and their out of date ideas about beach access.

Fair enough it is "Only 1.6km long?"
Doesn't matter if it where 1.6 Meters long tho  ;D
Access is denied here, and this sets a precedence at other beaches right around the country.
Next it will be a parcel of land and the gates will go up again, Which is already happening.

Had a very productive day getting signatures for our petition to stop the closure on Pippi Beach Yamba.Only had a handful of people that objected to us.Funny enough, one of the Councillors who are pushing to have the access shut was reported in the council minutes saying............"The closure to privately owned vehicles would alleviate littering, illegal camping & human waste being left on the beach".  ???

Now seeing this part of the beach is "off leash" for dogs, she obviously doesn't know the difference between the two piles  ::) .Another thing, the access track is also used by pedestrians who walk the dogs down to the beach & we found, in the grass beside the access track, 6,yes 6 loaded dog dropping plastic bags dumped in the grass. The bin for these bags was a mere 20 mtrs away. :-\
Closure of areas to serve the interest of another minority group at the expense of the majority users

With over 600 signatures collected so far & all submissions in by this Friday, we now wait the outcome.
