Trying to work out how to transport 4 bikes around Australia.  Kids bikes are all sorted.  Adult bikes a bit problematic. Can't work out how to carry them on the Swan.  Thought folding bikes might be the go.  Anyone had any experience with these, are they any good?

Got a mate who's currently up North on holidays with a pair of folding bikes (1 for him and the misses each), can find out his thoughts on them when he returns if you like. I know they are new bikes he took away for the first time, I think he's happy with them last I heard.

Would be great to get some "on road" experience!

I have a Dahon which we've taken to a couple of places. Surprisingly comfortable and robust. It was an impulse buy on clearance at Anaconda but was still close to $400. Dahon and Tern make some folding mountain bikes as well. Good folders are built for minimum weight or for strength. Commuting requires light weight (Brompton is the best known). Cheapies are heavy and fragile. The first run Aldi folders were a good compromise but the latest ones were quite ordinary.
