Sydney weather: Air pollution alert as temperatures to hit 47 degrees across NSW this week

NSW Health has issued an air pollution alert as Sydney prepares to swelter through another summer day, warning that an increased level of ozone in the atmosphere is likely to affect residents with respiratory problems.

Sydney's air quality is forecast to be poor on Tuesday, when the mercury is expected to hit a top of 31 degrees in the city and 37 degrees in the western suburbs.


Richmond and Penrith are both forecast to reach 40 degrees on Wednesday, dipping to 30 degrees on Thursday before rising to a sweltering 42 on Friday.
Spare a thought for the residents in Bourke, in north-western NSW, which is expecting a maximum of 45 degrees on both Wednesday and Thursday, rising to 47 degrees on Friday.

Tennant Creek flooded after freak rain event

FLOODWATERS in Tennant Creek have subsided following a weekend deluge.

Meteorologists described the event as a "one-in-50-year flood."

The main drag of Tennant Creek was flooded after the town, about 1000km south of Darwin, was hit with 70mm of rain in just 70 minutes on Friday night. Some locals waited for the rain to stop at the Tennant Creek Hotel on Paterson St. The Central Service Station, also on Paterson St, had its driveway flooded.

Perth falls a few drops short of wettest day on record

Perth has fallen a couple of cup fulls short of recording the wettest Perth day ever after more than 110 millimetres fell in the 24 hours until 9am.

Weather geeks were glued to the gauges on Friday morning after Perth needed only 10 millimetres of rain by 9am to beat the wettest day ever, which ironically was also in February, back in 1992 when 120.6 millimetres fell.

Fairly copping it right now...............lightening just bounced off something outside............you could feel it in the air and the thunder was deafening

I see a supposed tornado touched down at Brisbane airport this arvo, no damage reported though as it was more of a dust devil then full on tornado. Around the same time as that I had a nice 35mm of rain fall at my place (was bucketing down actually), brings this weeks rainfall at my place to 66mm and more to come over the weekend supposably. It's exactly what we all needed in these parts being it's so dry of late, hopefully many of the drought declared areas can get some of this rain also.

New Italy has reopened, they got 9" in a couple of hours, they showed footage on the news last night.
South Grafton at Musk Crk, you only have to spit in the crk and it floods.

It's only 6.5 Meters at Lillydale, Grafton needs to evacuate when it gets over 20 meters.

Here is a link to the rivers that will run into the Clarence, most are not near their peaks, there is a break in the rain coming in from the coast.
Most of the reported flooding was local, Palmers Island had over 170mm in 12 hours, the Clarence has a huge flood plain, and it is a huge river system.

Will be interesting to see what happens next Full Moon.
The majority of our floods happen when there is a full moon.
That probably explains why people loose their minds and Flood Shop.
That's what happens when the media mentions the word FLOOD, people loose their minds and panic, empty the shelves of milk and bread.

Yep,
Seen that late yesterday.
Couple of our 4wd club members attended, RFS.
Looks like another day at home, the Ferries are off due to river heights being high at high tide.
Or it's a 75km trip each way to do some work. 
It's an hour & a half bus trip for the school kids, 
Normally a 15km and 1/2 hour trip to Maclean.
