Saw this post on facebook, so thought I would share as the truck is pretty distinctive.

Jayco van caught on security camera being stolen by this white Hilux. ( I think Jayco Sterling)

A few comments cut and paste from Facebook:

If anyone has seen this vehicle please contact police immediately. It is a white Toyota HiLux, caught stealing a caravan on Thursday 11/7

Van was taken from Portal Place, Harbour Town, Patterson Lakes.

From some dude: "When i was running last Thursday at 5am, i saw this ute (pic from somebody's CCTV) a few times - thought they were a lost tradie. Turns out they were casing the area & came back later in the day and stole this van. Any one recognise the ute??"

Van was stolen around mid day (apparently 12:36 on video footage)

Most of them don't give a Shit. They are so casual it's not funny. There was a couple a week or two ago. Pulled up out the front of the property, she walks down, knocks on the door. No answer, so signals him. Reverses down the drive way and hooks up the trailer. Gone in minutes. All on camera. She stares straight at it.

Another I saw yesterday, scumbag rifles through Sparkies van stealing tools. No care in the world, not in any real hurry. Under security lights and on camera. Didn't care. They are scum.

Shane.
With enough horse power, sheer ignorance and a total lack of respect for your vehicle, you'll get through....

understatement there.. ****in bottom feeding scrotes...
cause they know the law wont do anything to them, and if they get caught and beaten to a pulp by the owner, they can sue the owner and win... ****in awesome system that is...

Everyone is minding his/her own business nowadays.
A few weeks ago I cycled home from work and when I went from the road to the cycle path, the front wheel clipped the little edge and I fell, hard.

Hopefully it is recovered before it ends up like Steve and Lynne's 80 Series.

Both probably are. I did hear of a caravan recovered about a week after being stolen in WA a few days ago. It does end happily sometimes. Not often.

Wazza was telling me on MSN of a post
"Amber Haines I'm pretty sure this is a coincidence but this morn I saw a caravan dumped in the middle medium strip in Braybrook opposite Caroline chisolm girls campus. The windows were smashed out etc. didn't get a good look at it though."

http://www.vicpolicenews.com.au/news/4036-wannabe-rastafarian-serial-caravan-thief.html

Caravan owners are urged to remain vigilant while a serial caravan thief is active in Melbourne's outer suburbs.

The man has successfully stolen a caravan in Patterson Lakes, was caught in the act trying to take another in Monbulk and was seen sizing up a third also in the Monbulk area.

He has first stolen two number plates from a vehicle at a Rowville golf course to use to disguise his getaway vehicle on 30 June.

He has then attended a house on Old Emerald Road in Monbulk and hitched up the $50,000 caravan to his four-wheel drive ute about 3.50pm

The female owner has arrived home to catch the man about to drive off.

After being confronted by the owner, he has quickly unhitched the caravan and left.

It's believed the same man also targeted a caravan for sale on Fairydale Road in Monbulk about five hours later.

The man made arrangements to see the caravan about 6pm but didn't turn up.

The owner was then at home when he noticed a car pull up in his driveway about 9pm.

He asked the man what he was doing and he said he wanted to test whether he could hook the caravan up to his car.

The caravan owner told the man to leave which he did.

In the most recent incident, the man robbed an elderly couple of their dream holiday after stealing their caravan in Patterson Lakes

Investigators have been told the burglars stole the $50,000 caravan from the driveway of a house at Portal Place Patterson Lakes sometime between 12pm-3pm on Thursday 10 July.

The owners, an elderly couple, had recently purchased the caravan and were planning to leave this week on a road trip holiday to Darwin.

The caravan is a 2013 JAYCO Sterling (21' 6) with registered number V 70482.

Investigators have released CCTV images of a suspect vehicle, a white 4x4 with tray seen towing a similar caravan in the area at the time of the theft and the a photo of the same model caravan.

The man, believed to be bald, has been known to wear a number of hair pieces including a reggae-style beanie with brown dreadlocks, sometimes tied back, and also a wig with straight brown hair.

Police urge caravan park staff and other caravan holiday makers to keep a watch-out for the stolen caravan which has a large "Do not Overtake "sticker across the rear underneath the window.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

I know this will sound heartless so putting on flame suit now.

I do feel very sorry for the elderly couple who had their van stolen, however if it is insured (it doesn't say either way) then surely it would only postpone their dream holiday? Realise that other circumstances may contribute.

If it is just a case of not being insured (for whatever reason) then perhaps they should have made sure their dream holiday had some insurance. I am sure that almost all of us would have insurance on any $50000 asset.

Not heartless - Sensible.

When we brough the boat, we arranged the cover note as we were driving out to pick it up.
Only takes a call to the Insurance companies to sort this sort of stuff out.

Talk to most Motorbike / Car Dealers / Rental Car Companies / Fleet managers and they'll have all sorts of stories about the stupidity of people who "will do the insurance when I get home..."

I do feel sorry for the couple who had the van stolen.

On a seperate point - whats with the "Do Not Overtake" sticker on the back (in the police report).

Unless they are in a 200 Series consistently doing the speed limit it's not their right to say don't overtake.

Landcruiser ute and camper went missing from a Sydney driveway Sunday night also. Was apparently packed and ready for holidays.

Over 7.5 meters can display the sign

"It is recommended that for vehicles over 7.5 metres long, the "DO NOT OVERTAKE TURNING VEHICLE" sign be
fitted, either as a separate sign located on the left hand side or incorporated in the left hand side marking plate. If such
a vehicle (meaning the towing vehicle together with the trailer and load) will need to straddle lanes when turning, then
it must be fitted.
• It is not permitted to fit categories of rear marker plates containing the text "DO NOTOVERTAKE TURNING VEHICLE"
(i.e. 'Legend' plates 34, 31L and 33L) to vehicles with an overall length less than 7.5m, other than to the trailer or
semitrailer of an articulated combination, where the total articulated vehicle length will exceed 7.5m when coupled.:

I think it makes them feel like they own the road and nobody is allowed to over take them and ruin their view of the horizon.
