Bought a GIC Extreme Offroad Camper Trailer with a Mate in Dec 2012.
Now he decide go back to Germany, because of the better weather.

New price at the moment 6080$ incl the 880$ pack we have.
Camper is still in good condition, usual wear and tear after a few trips.

Paying him out is the only option, so what should I offer him?
We are still Mate and this shouldn't change!!!

Any comments are really appreciated :)

Based on the new replacement price that you have quoted i think that $2500 to $3000 would be a fair offer.

He going back to Germany, it's his choice to opt out of the deal. I would offer him $2k. The rest is depreciation and inconvenience.

Half of the average second hand price, after all if you had to sell it he and you would only get half of the second hand sale price. You would expect at most 3/4 of the buy price for second hand, maybe closer to 2/3 price.

$6080 new price   -$4560@ 3/4 sale price - $2280 @ half of sale price

$6080 new price   -$4050@ 2/3 sale price - $2025 @ half of sale price

I would research the current second hand value and offer half. Current new price has nothing to do with it. IMO.

Personally I'd have a chat to your mate about it and see what becomes,
If I was to make an offer though it would be half the price you guys paid not the current price

I'd give you my opinion but for the sake of the forum we are not allowed to comment about this brand of camper :police:

Talk to your mateand work it out, maybe ask him first. If you are good mates then a compromise will be made on both sides. Do you have spare cash? does he? Do you both buy and sell stuff 2nd hand much or is it always new? All sorts of factors will come into it. For me I'd be considering the second hand value, how much you've each used it and offering somewhere in the middle.

Haggle and come to an agreement. Better for both of you to find a mutually acceptable figure.

I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.

Tell him you'll leave it in your yard, and manage the regular maintenance, he can pay half the management, tyres, rego costs etc..., and it will be available when he comes back to visit australia.
