Hi all,

I have had some ongoing issues with running the 3 way chescold on gas. It runs fine on 240.

I've had it in for a couple of services in the last 3 years at about $180 a throw so am keen to try a DIY on this one.

I'm pulling the back off in an attempt to clean the gas jet. Can anyone suggest where I will find the jet?

Cheers

I would suggest at the bottom of the heater where the flame is when it's alight, check around there, I'm sure it's there somewhere.
Be advised though, cleaning such jets in most cases destroys them, I'd have a new one handy just in case. While your at it, clean out the flue as well.
Though I've never yet done either of these tasks on ours and we've had it now for about 16 years without any issues. Am wondering why folks are having problems with this issue.

Thanks I'll look there tomorrow. We do a fair amount of beach camping. I wonder if it is the moist salt air? They are a good option but this one has let us down a few times. Thanks

Cost us well under $100 to have ours serviced on the Gold Coast.

Most should be similar.

Google is your friend.

Plenty of hits if you google three way gas fridge not working.

You need to photograph the lower part of the rear assembly to see the jet set up.

This is a different fridge but they are all pretty much the same technology
This is where the burner and jet is
Don't poke anything in the jet, screw it out and just clean it with turps and a paint brush and blow it out with compressed air, it is normally a non metallic jet in a brass holder. You may need a new seal washer if you screw it out, remember this is gas and not just any sealant can be used.
Clean the burner with a brass brush and blow it out.
Make sure you reposition the  piezo igniter probe and the safety valve sensor back to exactly the same distances and position that they were in or they won't work.

We used the Waeco place at Burliegh. Must have one in Brisbane.

There is. The are located near the Bunnings Store at Underwood in Logan.

Thanks for the underwood lead. I have cleaned the flue and jet in metho. They both looked pretty good to be honest. I have just put it back together and tested it. No good.

The pilot flame is going out at soon as I release the knob (not sure of the name). I have kept the pressure down for various times up to a minute. But it goes out as soon as I release.

I have read some stuff about the thermo coupling but not sure what that is.

Any suggestions.

Thermocouple for sure. It is the little probe that pokes into the pilot light when lit. It is a Safety device so the gas stops if the pilot is not lit.  I have replaced a few on hot water services etc.  An easy job with the correct part.  Tried using a universal one once with no success. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will assist you further.  Great fridge. Well worth persisting with.

Bigred, have you pulled this apart? as if you haven't there is something missing here, that looks like the thermocouple tube on the bottom and it should connect to the valve, mine has a brass block there between the aluminum cap and the copper thermocouple tube, it also has an earth wire on it as this is your "hold open" solenoid assembly.

Thanks mark. Yes I had started pulling things apart prior to taking the photo. Typical bloke things start unscrewing things then ask for help! Thanks though
