Questions regarding stuff in the house (380V, sat dish)

Hi all,
Since moving into our new house I am finding stuff I never seen before or didn't think about it. A few questions though.

- The garage has a 3-phase power point. Could be handy if I ever want to have some big electric machine in there, but otherwise not needed. Does this mean that the whole house is a 3-phase? Do I need a different solar system in stead of the normal one or do they all work when having 380V?
- In the back yard is a metal pole with a satellite dish on top. It is a big black mesh dish. It looks like it is disconnected but not sure. What to do with it: get rid of it or leave it and use it?
- In the living room, net to a antenna output is a power point look-alike, but in stead of the normal Australian plug holes it has 2 small round holes in line. No mark or text. What are these?

Q1) i would imagine your 3 phase will be a seperate circuit to rest of house

Q3) maybe old speaker plugs?? does it look like there was speakers in other rooms or up in the corners of loungeroom?

Its quite obvious that aliens lived in the house prior to your arrival. The 3-phase was for charging the space ship, satellite dish and antenna socket were for communicating with the home planet ... nanu nanu.

If you have a 3 phase outlet in the shed you will have 3 phase on the house.
I don't know a lot about solar but you will feed your generated power back into the grid on one phase only (I think)
With regards tot he dish were the previous owners from the Philipines or similar Asian country. These type of dishes are common for picking up Asian satellite TV
How old is your house. The wall plate with the 2 small round holes could be an old ribbon type antenna point. Post up a pic.

1. Go into your meter box and take a photo and post it up.

2. Sounds like an old pay TV antenna

3. Take a photo and post up. It sounds like an old ribbon TV outlet.

We have 3 phase to the house and shed. The A/C units are both 3 phase, and I have a few 3 phase tools in the shed.

Used 3 phase tools can sometimes be quite reasonably priced.

If 1 phase is good.....

agree with symon.  the sat dish sounds like a paytv dish.  my mate has one that sounds exactly the same. 

sometimes they use the big ones if the small, roof-mounted ones are not available or don't work in that area.

1 - yes the house has three phase available

2 - you will probably find that the dish is from an asian / indian / USA satalite TV subscription service as opposed to australian paytv

3 - Could be anything from ribbon TV outlet, to FM aerial outlet to speaker outlets. Given that there are two of them next to each other, my bet is speakers. Do you have any others around, sy outside in a pergola area?

With number 3 unscrew the plate of the wall and take a pic of the back

For number 2 run some coax and plug the dish into your telly. Assuming the dish is aligned you will get some sort of message from the provider about subscription or other. You may get nothing if you dont have the reciever box

2 - You will need to find out which satelites it is pointing out. i doubt you are going to get any message without a receiver of some sort. You may be able to get a TV installer to check signal strength and they may have some table they can compare strength and dirrection to. Best bet, if you dont need it, just pull it down.

3 - As said earlier on, unscrew it off the wall and take a pic of the back is about all I can suggest

Folks,

That Sat Dish is a 1800mm to 2000mm diam. dish. 
(May be a little bigger but not much.)
For C Band Sat. reception and needs a tuner box to decode the signal.

I doubt very much you will get any sort of picture from straight off the dish.
Also needs 75 Ohm Quad shield coax to connect to the tuner.
That tubular piece hanging off the back is a motor drive that moves the dish.
This dish motor is used to re-align the dish on a number of satellite positions.
It also needs a 4 core lead, most use 5 core trailer wire. 
Between the tuner and the dish motor.

You need a specialist shop for the tuner.  A Humax or an STGold 4200 or any number of others.
