Team
Heading to Portland Buggy club soon, and need to sort out a Sand Flag + Pole.
Their requirements are the flag needs to be a minimum of 4mtrs off the ground.

In the past I've used a wog pole, but it broke at Robe last time out :(

Now you can buy them for 3 testicles, 1 kidney, 2 lungs, 2.3 children, and a *************** lot of money...
EG: $165 + shipping ??? Surely not...

I'm only going to use it once... so no need to spend up big, but want something that wont shyte itself.

Anyone know where you can get a decent pole from? I've googled, and called places, but I haven't had luck yet.

Thoughts?

I mean these flagpole setups from 4wd stores, is this another example of "4wd" tax ???

I can get this for ~$20, just mounting it maybe an issue, but a touch cheeper..

borrow a set of plumbers rods .. My mate local plumber uses white fiberglass screw together rods that are 3m each , they have a brass screw on one end and a brass socket on the other ..

cheers

I have a couple of 'bike flags', attach one to the top of the other and clamp to the roof rack.  ;D

What about something like this:
http://www.anaconda.com.au/Product/Camp-and-Hike/Tents-and-Shelter/Tent-Accessories/tent-pole-kit-95mm

I've just made something similar out of 3 of these poles & then cut up a cheap safety vest & attached it via cable ties to the top. Using an old UHF radio spring base for mounting the flag.
Yet to see if it last the distance. Otherwise have a look at this thread I found:

Yep recommend the Tent pole option.  The thicker Poles of course.

Duct tape will anchor it.  And or Hose Clamps.  And you can pack it away folded up.
You just need to tension the shock cord to hold them together when in use, and get a plumber's/builders red load extension flag.  (REECE or BUNNINGS etc.)
Pick one up from the store, or the side of the road, or your favourite tradie.

Only has to be 4M tall on your vehicle.  measured from the flat level surface your vehicle is standing on.  The bigger the truck the shorter the pole has to be.

You would want sumfin inside the conduit to stop it bending  and snapping.

Go to a hock-shop like cash converters and buy an old beach fishing rod. As stared before strip the runners off and hey presto instant flag pole. You'll may need to go snow dropping for the frilly undies though.

Just got back from Mount Isa today and a young bloke had a piece of PVC pipe filled with expander foam for a site flag pole

Mine site flag poles would do the trick.  You just mount them by having an air fitting in the bull bar and clip it in.
Don't complain! It could be worse, you could be six foot under or a brick of ashes!!

That's exactly what everyone is trying  to  duplicate!
They're made by Black Widow and Minewhips, and a few others as well.
And they are all charging from $115 to $150 for them.

Exactly like LOST said.  They want both your kidneys, not just one.
