Can it be cut while on trailer

Hi
I have a side fold camper top on my trailer ,i have two batteries located front and back of the mud guards only trouble is when the camper is unfolded access to these batteries is a no go because the side of the camp  tent drops down beside the trailer covering every thing.
was wondering if a upholsterier can put in some zipper or velcro drop down "windows" in the canvas whilst it is bolted to the trailer? do they have portable sewers etc to do this type of work? has any one done this before?
I guess the other option is to move the batteries etc to the other side of trailer.

I've gotta have the flyscreen replaced on mine on one door, and its a remove the canvas gig.. which is why im not rushing to have it done.

Is it possible to move your fuse box for easier access ?

Gee don't know what sort of battery box you have, but it must be pretty open if a cat's going to get in there 

Not good practice to have fuses in with the batteries in an enclosed box.

But having said that, blowing a fuse should only be a rare occurrence.  I have my battery on the tent side like you and if I really needed to get in there, I would get someone to pull/hold the tent back whilst I crawled in.  It could be done for that rare occasion and would be a lot less expensive and painful than pulling the tent off the trailer to get a zipped panel put in for the once or twice in a lifetime you will need to get in there.  Think you are worrying about nothing.

bluejay, mate... to answer your question you would really need to talk to a canvas man/woman, HOWEVER from what I have heard, yes you would need to take the tent off to have it sewed.

A big job & probably cost a bit. As KB says, perhaps it might be best to leave it as is unless you really do want the access.

My local canvas guys said he needs 1m of clear canvas around the area he needs to sew and you need to be able to get the canvas to the machine. In other words for your scenario think of another solution.

Southern cross canvas in Bayswater has a portable machine on a trolley.  The have it for that very reason to move the machine to the canvas.  I used them for a peg tab repair.  The others I spoke to need to move the tent to the machine.
They could probably do the fly replacement.  Not sure about the original idea of a door to the battery area as there probably isn't enough movement in he tent at that point.
