Drying your tent

Hi

How do you dry out your tent if you pack up in the rain?

We only have limited space at home to open up the tent and no where to peg (on a driveway).   

Any tips or tricks??

The only way to really do it is open it and hope for no rain. I wouldn't leave it too long packed wet

Yep only one way to do it, open it up again. Where are you? Maybe there is a swagger in your area with some space to open it up?

Your tent won't survive very long if packed away wet.
Should be dried out ASAP, 2-3 days at most if you can't get it dried.
Hang it in a shed, or drape it over a washing line.
If just the tent, no trailer involved, stick it up in the drive with the poles and tie off to your fence rails.
Tie off to the side of the house verandah.  You don't have to fully erect the tent, just get it out in the warm subtle breezes that dry it so well.  As long as it's all clear of the ground it should be OK.
If you do a good job, you might be able to con the other half into a carport.
Be a great place for drying tents.  And hanging washing.  Maybe even park a vehicle now and then.

I have a rope ready that I can lower in my workshop to hang the tent. even if it hasnt rained I open it and hang it, wanna make sure its fully dry.

If you dont have a shed, then maybe veranda or even the lounge room. somewhere where you can dry it out.

whoops, I was talking tent tent.

if you ned a shelter to setup your trailer tent then go to an underground car park and set it up.

Find a quiet corner set it up there to dry it out... just an idea that might help one or two.

Phew.... I was imagining how much trouble I'd be in with swmbo, if I were to set up the CT in the lounge

I set the trailer up in the shed...

your only choice if you don't have room at home is take a chair down and trailer down to the local park, and set it up there for an hour... sit back and relax.

I used to live in an apartment and i would just lay the tent across a couple of chairs on the Balcony to dry just turn it a few times so there are no wet bits left

Or hang it over the balcony rail with some rope

Just open it up on your drive, and drape it over stepladders or chairs, should dry nice and easy. I'm sure you do that already.

our touring tent i drap across the clothes line under the house, the camper trailer i open in the back yard and zip it all up shut and turn the diesel heater on if i want it to dry quickly

By the time I lay out all the pieces the small amount of warmth from the asphalt dries it in no time. (abour 1 beer long)
Turn it over allow to dry for 1 more beer.
pack it up, which is hard work and needs more beer

The actual tent takes the longest, depending on the breeze, and how many neighbours come out to "supervise"

We have the same problem, absolutely no room to setup the camper.

We have been looking at buying in a small country town, the house we are looking at is  perfect, with plenty of room. So hopefully it will be a thing of the past.

I notice the side walls are still together, does leaving it like that make it easier to put up and pull down or does the weight make it awkward?

The darker blue panel near the front is the roof of the kids room.
The next piece with a slight kink is the walls for the room (one piece)   The photo just looks like the 2 are joined
I do leave the annex roof attached to the main tent and just through it over the top.

I dried some canvas walls recently just using just a household fan. The kind you get a kmart or bunnings for about $30.

Lay the canvas out and let the fan blow on the damp areas for a few hours and it will be dry again.
