some of you have noticed that I an the proud owner of a Mazda 626 that has been bingled.
I managed to straighten the car out and get 2nd hand parts to put it back on the road for only a couple of hundred bucks

Problem is the replacement LHF guard is a slightly different shade and bumper also needs the scrapes painted over. I said to my local guy that I'm not looking for anything flash just match the colour of the bent guard and same shade on the bumper,... like there's no panel beating, just a rub with wet & dry, barely a litre of colour and some clear coat. I offered to r & r the parts but he said it didn't matter, he gave me a price and I was lucky I was sitting down because to prep and paint these 2 items was worth it's sale price!

does anyone know someone in brissy I can just give the parts to and do a quick and reasonable priced cash job? or a couple of cartons, whatever as long as it's reasonable and in line with the type of finish expected (eg: not looking for a show finish just want it looking OK that's all)
I can leave the parts all week if they want.

A couple of cartons for an "OK" paintjob? I think you may be struggling with that. Most places I have asked, they charge about $150-200 to spray a panel that you have brought in, let alone on a car that needs to be masked up etc.

Maybe try the local TAFE, one of the students might like a Saturday job to practice.

When you say your new guard is slightly different, what do you mean? Pics?

there is cheap and there is good.

automotive spray painting requires perpetration to be done correctly and in the right sequence with quality products, dad had panel shops for years and I always wanted to paint cars till he made work with the spray painter for a week ..bloody hell so much work and the fun bit only lasts a little while (bit like marriage I guess LOL)

No painter worth his salt will want to do a cheap job as the end result will be cheap..

As a qualified auto painter (no longer do it) I have to agree with theo.. It sounds to me if your guard is omly slightly different then you already have your cheap job.  Anything else requires a lot of work. Once you see a cheap job, you would change your mind about having it.

That might be what you will pay, go and get a few other quotes and see how they compare. Maybe what you want to pay and what the job is worth are 2 different things.

To give you an idea of time. I sprayed the inside of my nephews speed way car over the weekend. With prep work and masking up etc, 2.5 hours on Sat in primer and 1.5 for paint.
The cost of primer, sandpaper, prepsol, thinners activator around $130 so far.

It may only take 5 minutes to spray something but it will take another 15 minutes to clean you spray gun and oviously longer if you use two guns.
