Gas Strut Replacement

Hi Everyone,

After a run in with a cow on the way home one night we now have to replace a gas strut on the cub. Has anyone done this before and if so do you have any pointers? It's not looking as easy as my husband originally thought it was going to be.

   Check your local Yellow Pages for gas strut repair places, they will often do home visits for repairs or replacements.

Most caravan service centres have a full range of gas struts in stock. Just get the damaged one off and take it with you and the guys should have no trouble matching up a new one.

l know a bloke that can do the work in Shepparton Vic . He did the struts that hold up the bed when l put in a bigger  mattress , went well .

Um why not just get a length of conjute, cut it to length and split it down the centre so it can be slide over ya strut? Just make sure it will slide over the main chamber.

not sure how different they all work, but the one on the rear of the KK i needed replaced had a small wire circlip (i guess you'd call it) that needed removing to get the ball off of the socket so to speak, and also needed a clamp to hold the strut in position length wise whilst it was removed. easy enough to do now i've seen it done, but i doubt i would have worked out how to do it on my own had i not seen it done by someone else, i thought you just needed to undo the ends with a spanner when i was looking at it, but thinking about it now it's obviously under pressure.

G'day Mrs Bockies, If gas struts are under pressure then I would get a pro to remove ant fit them, I believe people have been badly hurt by them, not worth taking that kind of riisk.

Easy. I had two that refused to compress. Unbolted them. Went to Repco and bought replacements. They work a treat. A little shorter but still gives me access to the under bed area.

Make sure gas strut is fully extended pull the clip back take strut of the ball and replace new one in same position
