Ok I have a choice between 2 trackabouts.
1. 2003 delux tourer with water tank, power, basic boat rack, home made kitchen, no stone guard, oldish tyres.
2. 2007 delux tourer with stone guard, drifa swing out kitchen, but no power or water tank, mags with good tyres
Both have full annex and canvas looks good. Both have toolbox
Both are $6500
Which one would you buy???
1988 GQ Patrol called "True Blue", winch, front air locker, heat exchange, rear air bag assisted suspension, long range tank, drawer system, engel, dual battery, roof rack, LED light bar etc

2007 Trackabout Tourer, drifta swing out kitchen, full annex

You poor bugger, having to choose between 2 Trackabouts:-)

Sight unseen, No2.

You would need to weigh up the cost to add water/power v the value of the Drifta kitchen, but not hard to add power and water as D4D says.

The other consideration would have to be age of the canvas and amount of times it's been out.

I am leaning toward the 2007 but have no idea of cost to do water tank and power?? Don't have the ability to do these mods myself so I assume getting them fitted by someone else would be pricey???
All input is appreciated.
Thanks

Weigh up costs for new tyres, stone guard compared to a water tank and power. Haggle with the owner of the 2003 model and see what their best walk away price is. Its a buyers market at the moment.

Buy the newest you can... one is either overpriced or the other a deadest bargain.

Power - put on some beers, and Im sure a Swagger will pop by and assist you or invite you around.

Water tank.. no more than $300 fitted with a tap I'd guess..

2007, water tank and power are easy mods.
x2 I would pick the newer one mainly on the age deterioration of the canvas, not saying there is, but age catches up with us all.

Good luck with the decision. One Trackabout to pick from is a no brainer, two is a lot harder.  :cup:

Maybe look at the one with the best kitchen as that is also hard to replace, depending upon how its made.

If you're not using the boat rack, then take it out of the equation. Will it be a hindrance if you don't have a boat? Depends upon how its made/positioned.

JustCruzin

Thanks for the replies. The boat rack will be used however one day would be upgraded to a folding boat rack.
I like the extras the old one has but am worried about the waterproofing of the canvas. Does anybody know if there were are structural differences between 2003/2007 delex tourers. Things like steel thickness, weld quality, joins in the chassis etc. Johnny Trackabout???

G'day JustCruzin, the '03 & '07 should be near identical ie. 75mm triple drawbar, painted not powdercoated however there's a good chance the '07 has a few laser cut bits 'n pieces but neither here nor there.. Main things to check are the bearings, brakes, hitch etc the more costly things on a camper.. Just regarding the breaks, make sure they have them to start with. Allot of the earlier ones had a round axle with no brakes as they were a very light trailer.

All in all they were a simple yet bullet proof camper, we've had a hire fleet of the 2003 Safari's and still going strong and waterproof as ever.

Any probs just PM or call me.. Dave 0432 740 553

Thanks very much for all that info Dave. Really appreciate it. I think I have made a decision depending on what it looks like in the flesh.
Thanks everyone for your help.   :D
