So I thought we had it all sorted and were working towards a CT until yesterday,  whilst she was at work earning squillions yesterday she got talking to one of the anaesthetists about camping and talked about buying a CT well he has a CT apparently but its a soft floor he said he would sell it to us but doesn't think a soft floor is that good especially for a young family.

This guy has both a CT and a Goldstream.

What he said was if he was to buy another CT in would be a hard floor, quick to set up if just stopping over night and your up off the ground as well, he then said that the next options are the likes of the Swans Goldys Coromels etc of which I am quite aware.

So it looks like the step up CT that we were looking at is off the cards the wife started looking at prices of hard floors last night and then started saying a second hand Goldstream will only cost another 10k.

And thus we have gone full circle again lol but his time its with the wife, and a happy wife is a happy camper as we are all aware.

Fact - there is no perfect camper for every situation, there is always a compromise.

Now that is out of the way you need to work out what style of camping you want to do and how much crap you want to take.
If you're moving everyday then you need something quick, hard floor works but limits the amount of crap you can take.
If you base camp then anything will work, soft floor, Goldstream etc. soft floor will allow you to have more room and take more crap.
Re above if you want to cook inside then Goldstream
If you are going to live long term out of it then you need something large with own shower/dunny
I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go...

As above we went the goldstream as the softfloor has a lot of ropes and pegs and for overnight stops it was annoying us.
We also lived in ours for 5 months and enjoyed the cooking and extra room inside

If it was just for weekends and base camping the soft floor would be fine

My only regret with the goldstream is that the width and the weight are limiting factors

We had that concern as well so we bought a soft floor that didn't need any pegs or ropes to set up.

We always wanted a soft floor because they are cheaper than hard floors as a general rule, and also have more room in them for our family. And the one we got should only take a few minutes longer to set up than a hard floor camper in theory...

It all depends on your, or should I say your wifes needs and the cash you have.  We went from a soft floor CT to a Goldstream and couldnt be happier, but it cost more.  We do most of our cooking outside and it works out great.

Depends on where and how you want to camp really.
we went soft floor because twice a year we beach camp and the lighter weight and less bulky nature of our CT lets us get through heavy going with less risk and we can poke our way into some really tight spots if we want to (usually need to at peak times!)

Thanks for all the feedback guys that's the thing I can rough it actually I love it we got caught a few years ago in Port Macquarie in a tent in temps of -0 for a week crap it was hard an after reading some forums we probably did everything wrong we were no set up for it at all but who would have thought PM could get to -2 lol we had no modcons just a cheap kmart tent lamp, and our two dogs and some books my wife back then said she will never do that a F$^&*ing again bit like when we said we would never go back to the snail pace of QLD lol (we have lived her for over ten years now) andy way i digress.

I would like to be able to camp on beaches etc when we get a 4WD thats for sure have the ability to free camp where we like and not being stuck in caravan parks but no doubt that where we will start out.

I see the Swans Goldys etc as being heavy and hard to tow on beaches etc we also have to pack for two younglings.

More that I think about maybe a hard floor maybe the way to go if I can pick up a second hand and at a decent price we would also require a kids room or something along those lines hmm plenty to think about really.

I read this on here all the time but as the female part of our partnership I would like to say I don't agree both should be happy with the set up.  We have over the years purchased things that make our camping more comfortable easier set up etc and that makes longer term camping better but I was just as happy sleeping in the swag on the back of the ute as in the camper was more about getting out there.  It is easier now for things like getting changed and having more shade, and yes the camper bed is more comfortable but we chose it all together.  Anyway I hope that you can come to a solution soon as really it is about getting time to get out and about.

Yep we are the same i have the stove outside that goes into its own hatch. If i had my time again i would have got them to widen out the space and put a baby Q in there

I went from a goldy wind up to a goldy pop top with bunks. Extremely happy with change, but I had a crown and now have 2yr old kid too. I only bush camp and find the size is only a factor in maybe 10% of sites. Outside cook as well on a Beefeater Bugg
