By the way when you have your gear knocked of and driven away in your vehicle, who are you going to blame when the insurance company says, "As YOU left YOUR keys in YOUR vehicle WE are NOT paying YOUR claim."   Oh and that is followed by the Insuance company saying, 'there will be no further correspondence with this matter'
Don't know if the OP was about blame and insurance claims. Maybe I wrote that bit wrong. Be hard to make a claim, because they stole my car so I couldn't get home to ring the insurance mob.

And as for leaving an outboard laying around????. Do Marinas in QLD need locks or security cameras?
Don't know about marinas. I was on an island out in the ocean that I travelled to in a boat. Maybe I wrote that bit wrong.

Of course they would Why wouldnt they?
Maybe should have wrote more. 7 hours from nearest capital, 1/2 hour from nearest town(population sfa), plus 1/2 hour from nearest 2wd access. Drive in, cut chain, pack up contents and pack tent onto trailer and get ready to travel, hook up to car, drive out. Without getting caught/seen/heard because you are a ninja CT thief.

Sorry Whitty
They're normally very trusting campers .......

but they were a bit worried about the campers opposite them

;D ;D ;D
Stevo
That's exactly what we said to ourselves ;D ;D ;D ;D
Anyway, must suck to live where you mob are..... ;D ;D

Wuzgonna

Only once in 30 years of camping we had a BBQ grill plate stolen on Fraser Island in 94.

Been shot at,
Screamed at,
Had plenty of yahooo's around us.

Better lock this thread before someone steals it.

Yep they do.

but hey, like achjimmy said, you go live in your utopia.

Obviously comments from others don't mean anything to you apart from someone standing on their Soapbox.  You started the thread asking "Are theives that bad near you??"
Cheers

Dead right. All it required was maybe an answer which included an anecdote, short story, yes or no, whatever blows your hair back. Don't read too much into it, maybe just read it properly....

Brumbypt

Our local panel beater left the keys in his Flat tray truck, now its gone, stolen, never to return.

But it must have been stolen by professionals, no local would have taken it, no point unless you are going to strip it for parts or rebadge it.. weird..

Better to laugh at them then join them.

But on a serious note.  And I am typing this slowly so it can be read slowly

A couple of years ago now, maybe four or five years now, a family had set up there camper trailer and assorted camping gear at a lovely little spot called Pebbley Beach, some of you here may know it, or have camped there before, sort of in between Coffs Harbour and Grafton on the NSW coast.  You have to 4wd a bit off the main track to the beach, beach run for a couple of kays cross the tidal creek over to the camp site right on the beach.  Pretty spot.  Anyhow, being so remote, old mate packs the family into the 4wd and goes exploring for the day.  Remote camp site, what could go wrong.  Poor buggers, come back from a good day and find the whole camp site packed up and gone.  Some dirty little low life has packed up their whole camp site and pissed off with it.

So yes it does happen

Hi,
   nope.

i.e. there are at least 3 kayaks and 5 dinghies tied up at the beach down the road with out any locks or chains.

A neighbour's 'workshop' (parent's carport) has a full array of metal working gear set up and in open view of the street. It has been like that for years with nothing taken.

cheers

Thieves everywhere, *ukin people, we are the problem.
Can't relate to these parasites that steal.
Cut fingers and limbs off these germs, Aussie laws are too soft, thats why theft is rank in this country.

It's funny, I have been mostly doing the CP the last few years while the kids are little but never have a thing touched. Clearly the thieves don't like my taste in things

Nothing wrong with any of your gear Greggy, it's all very pinchable.
You've either been taking precautions, or you've just been lucky.....
