Freighting a camper from Canberra to Perth.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to freight a camper trailer to Perth from Canberra.
Also recommendations on who to freight with?

Try GKR transport they have an online quote system, i have used them i the past for different bits and pieces, found them very good to deal with.

Have a search.. its cheaper and easier to drive .. there was a thread last week and the dude is driving across now.


It would be cheaper to find a trailer closer to home and save the $2000-3000 freight costs.

When are you looking at getting it? If you can hold off, I might (very very good chance) be going east at christmas and returning to Perth early in the new year (3rd or 4th Jan).

Hi. I got a price from Ceva for a CT freight from Canberra depot to Perth depot for $3400 incl gst in June this year.

Not only do you have the freight to worry about, but then you have to deal with licensing to get it registered.

I bought a camper that was qld registered (it was already in wa) and the licensing hassle alone was enough without having to worry about freight.

Really my camper and car were registered in VIC when i came over to WA filled out 1 form took it and the old plates to RTA and paid a bit of money and got a new plate took me 45 mins and she also did my licence for me when i was in there

Yup its different when YOU have owned it in another state (I think you have to have owned it for 12 months or from new) then you just fill out the form and its done like you say.

If you live in WA and you purchase an interstate vehicle it becomes unregistered as soon as it is signed over to you. So then you have to get a temporary movement permit to drive it home, then get an appointment to have it inspected, put up with the guy at transport who says "not supposed to bring trailers here" (despite the fact that I was instructed to do exactly that) have him fail it for silly things (he said the brakes didnt work... took it home and they were working perfectly.. have ever since) then get another movement permit to go back.. etc etc etc... Painful especially as all of the above needs to be done during office hours.

Have you looked at freighting it across via train to your closest depot? I looked into this recently and an unaccompanied camper was like $1300. Thought that was pretty good.

Lucky if I was going buy it, that it's a wa made trailer. Just be bringing it back to where it belongs. Not going to happen now though I don't think. Hopefully a MySwagger can buy it instead.

It's more about where it is registered than where it is made.
