Hey swaggers ...

Is anyone here into beekeeping?? Either for a hobby or something a bit bigger?

I'm looking at getting back into beekeeping again, as I use to have bees years ago. Im going to start with a few hives and maybe build up from there.

Chippy used to be big into when a kid with Dad, had about 6-8 hives in a suburban back yard. Was on call out to collect swarms reported to Police. Great hobby, keep us informed.

Speewa Swarmed bees are pretty dosile mate, also they rarely stay in the first place they swarm to long.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Might not be as simple as it was with that bee parasite that's everywhere but here.

Once it gets to Australia you will need to have procedures in place to deal with it
or you'll loose your hives.

I subscribe to the Australiasian beekeeper, so Im well up on all the latest re the Small hive beetle. Fingers crossed that we dont see colony collapse disorder like the USA here .... Im going to call some locals in the next week to pick up some new hives.

saw a doco a while back and remember thinking it would be a great way to annoy the neighbours, It would be a brilliant hobby to get into specially considering the price of honey and wax and even selling the bees
All my life, I thought air was free...until I bought a bag of chips

Bees generally should not annoy neighbours (and legally you can't ) it can be a very rewarding hobby, not necessarily financially though.  It's not for everyone . Cheers chippy

I used to work with my dad building beekeeping equipment until I stuffed my back. There is a local branch of the Queensland Beekeeping Association in Warwick. Not sure if you got there but the State Conference was here a few months ago too. Definately worth getting in touch with the QBA!
