Whats the best campsite at Ningaloo Station ?????

We stayed at South Lefroy Bay. There are heaps of sites that stretch around the bay and then further south along a more exposed length of beach. Some sites are right on the beach and others are nestled behind a dune, which means you can't see the beach but they are a bit more protected if the wind blows.  We had camp site number 4, which was along the more exposed bit of beach. I think a site further north in the bay itself would be better, but i don't know what numbers they are, the site numbers run into the 40s and 50s.  One thing to watch, there have been times when the camps that are right on the beach have been flooded by king tides.

they Will ask what you want in a camp when you get there. We camped at Jane's Bay. Depends if you want secluded or Boat access or shore fishing etc. Loved our time there.

We left North Lefroy site #33 today. Windy the last few days so we really appreciated the wind break the trees provided on the site. Only 1 other group of campers in our section. Winderabandi and South Lefroy had plenty of campers though, many battling the conditions. Can't beat the gorgeous water view @ SL.

Road/track in is a bit corrugated in parts. Amazing drive in through what feels like a desert environment when you leave the main road from exmouth/coral bay

watch the track in ...........i ripped the spring of my trailer on the way in

Another vote for North Lefroy here, but its all good!!

When you arrive you will talk to Phil, if you tell him what you plan on doing he will recommend the best spot.

Yes, a great spot to camp and tell the caretaker what you would like in a spot and he offers great advise where to camp. We had kids and some beach fishing and he directed us near other families that were camped. So helpful and a great time in a lovely spot.
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, Off to do more camping we go.

Anyone been here lately?

We stayed there in 18th/19/20th October this year we stayed at Winderabandi Point. The beach was awesome water nice to swim in but fishing was terrible! We did spend a little while picking up rubbish which I was very surprised to find.

The road in is still crap, we thought the actual station was just a deserted shack with broken windows etc very surprised when the lady came out to meet us!

Very nice spot though.

April will be pretty hot and muggy, we went to Kalbarri in April this year and it was quite humid and the flies were terrible.

Wilsurf, April is great weather. We went in April this year, 2 weeks after the cyclone went through so was a little humid and flies very bad because of all the rain that had been around. Road in was like a freeway compared to our previous visit in July 2013, when it was so corrugated that we passed 3 broken trailers in the 32 km from hwy to homestead. The camp spots are quite different so talk to Phil or Jane and explain what you are looking for and they will advise.
If you cant relax at Ningaloo something is very wrong. Great spot.

Bellony, which campsite did you stay?
The more I read the more I want to go.
Two years ago we stayed at Warroora Station which was great, but we want somewhere else this time.
It is a great part of WA indeed. We will bring the kayaks and snorkelling gear for sure.

We go to Janes Bay, mainly because it is the least popular (and we go to these places to get away from crowds), beach fishing is OK if you put in the effort, (no boat/kayak fishing allowed). Campsites are back from the beach, which can be good or bad depending on the wind. April the wind should not be an issue. Not as pretty as Sth Lefroy or Winderabandi which are the postcard type camps, similar to 14 Mile and Sandy Pt at Warroora. Janes Bay is very open, with the reef being a long way out so not very good snorkelling. Seen a couple of very big sharks too. If you have kids Sth Lefroy or Winderabandi would be my choice. Nth Lefroy has well separated sites, but not as pretty as Sth. Billy Pt has lots of rock (probably good fishing) but not very pretty. All there, just depends what your priority is.

Thanks all.
Are there any fuel stops between Exmouth and Ningaloo Station?
Our plan is to go to Exmouth first, have a swim with the whale sharks, then head down for relaxing at Ningaloo Station for a week.
I guess I have to take a 20 liter petrol jerry just in case. My car isn't the most fuel efficient with the V8 4.7.

Nope no fuel stops. It's either Exmouth, Coral Bay or Minilya.

Winderabandi is awesome - campsites literally 20m from the water but the beach fishing is non existent unless you drive north from there and try from the rocks etc. Have a look at google maps and you'll see a few tracks.

If you have a boat you're all set!

We had that same site a few years back - great site on the edge of the beach with a bit of protection from a dune. You'll love it!

A week at Ningaloo Station with our new (second hand) bedouin awning.
Great awning which gives lots of shade. We are very happy with the purchase, but they are too expensive to buy new.

Wil how did you go at Ningaloo?  What was Sth Lefroy like?  I'm looking to do a big trip from Melbourne to the west in June, with Ningaloo and Pilbara high on the agenda.

Ningaloo Station is great, we could stayed for another week if we hadn't run out of food.

Thanks mate.  Did you try fishing and, if so, any success?  Anything dangers to watch out for (in and out of water)?

No I didn't bring my rod.
The only thing is that your wife/kids/yourself are not afraid for mice and crabs.
They are around the campsites and you will see and hear them.

The track in from the bitumen was really good, almost smooth.
However from the homestead to the site however was a different story.
Bring cash for payment including $100 bond per vehicle, ie car and quad are $100 each, so $200 total.

Thanks Wil.  I think we can tolerate a mild rodent and crustacean infestation.  How much water did you take in with you?
