Water Storage

I am going away for about 10 days and want carry some extra water ,60 litres I don't think is enough.
The options are carry 6x10 litres in the ute or a 60 litre blader behind the front seats.
Both these soultions have their advantages. the 10 litre cans would allow a close moniter on your useage and maybe easier to fill.
What are your thoughts please.

I take it usable water is not available anywhere close to where your going .For me it would be containers if space wasnt an issue,  a bit more info on the trip,vehicle,amount of people etc may help others give a bit more of an idea on it ..

The 6 * 10 option would be a bit bulky in my opinion. As it sounds like you have a ute, there is this which is 70 litres and uses the otherwise awkward space around the wheel arch: http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=30596.0

I should have given more details . There will be 2 adults and will be bush camping . The question is more about the future than the present as I want to set up for longer trips next year.
The 70 litre tank is a good solution .

The desert yes, you do need extra water. I find as you drive along you can top up your levels at servos, c/p, parks, etc. that's what we do. I also buy some 15 litre spring water at Woolies. They pack on top of each other. Cheers

We have 45 on the roof in PVC piping. That is used for washing etc. That works well for us. I will say though that when we did the Simpson we didn't actually shower for 5 days. We used a small amount of water to do the old wash cloth wash. While that may not be ideal it is fine for where you are. I must say the shower in Birdsville was really good

I made one up out 100mm sewer pipe mounted on the roofrack. It held 25 liters. I second one on the other side would almost get you there. Cheap and easy to make.

light enough to lift, easy to put under a tap, can be located anywhere in the vehicle, allows for multiple sources if one gets contaminated, and packs well due to square cross section

down side is that you end up with a large space of air to carry/pack once they are empty

We used a small amount of water to do the old wash cloth wash. While that may not be ideal it is fine for where you are.

We have become fans of baby wipes. Make a great substitute for a shower for a few days. Also use paper towel to clean cooking stuff so you need very little water to finish the job. Think about what you cook - pasta or boiled veggies end up with water getting thrown away.

Jerry cans have the advantage that you can take them out of the vehicle to fill. Handy for places like the Coober Pedy coin operated hoses which have enough pressure to overflow easily.
