Air Compressor

I'm off to the Penrith Camping show this weekend and if I can get a special price I'm going to buy an inboard compressor. Will eventually want this to drive front lockers on my GU PATROL.

I'm looking at ARB, but open for suggestions on brand and model.

Cant really provide an input on the E-Lockers vs Air Lockers debate (haven't got there myself yet)

However I can recommend the ARB compressor. I have the standard one (not the dual one) in my GU under the drivers seat and it works brilliantly.

Not sure what year patrol you have, but in mine it had NO chance of fitting under the bonnet. I was not really keen on that idea any ways, these compressors have an over temp cut out and i have seen them cut out on a deg day in our north west (makes for slow inflation when you have to wait for it to cool down) With mine under the seat I can use air-con to keep it cool.

I find with mine under the seat, I need 2 hoses (ARB ones joined together) to reach the camper tyres comfortably.

x2 for ARB compressor.  I tried a few others, but ended up grabbing the ARB one last year and couldn't be happier.

We have the ARB twin one and it is brilliant.

We use it for work to run staple guns, air riveter etc etc. With a long hose connected it is great, Can't recommend enough.

Its mounted behind the rear seat in our Amarok.

Ive currently got 4 ARB compressors and have had another 2 in different vehicles. All preform great and have never let me down. Sure, there are quicker compressors but these get the job done again and again.
And lockers, know nothing about E lockers but do they have the back up/dealerships here in Australia like ARB do?

Theres a reason most comp trucks use ARB lockers..

one thing that you might want to think about is a small air tank to use the lockers? stops that constant on\off of the  aircompressor.

I like the one that TJM sells i cant stand the arrogant rude bastards at ARB.

Really your link to 4x4 Earth does nothing more then a heap of people saying E locker. No testing no direct comparison, with a few people carying on about an open diff and an lsd.  No different to http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/general-4x4-discussion/857702-eaton-e-locker-vs-arb-air-locker.html

End of the day they both do a job and it should come down to a personal choice which works.  Also has nothing to do with Air compressors.

I don't think there's anything quicker than the twin ARB compressor, especially if you fit a tank...the spec speed is twice anything else on the market...which makes sense.

ok so its slow pumping up my tyres, but it works, and it works well.. it just takes a while.

I also have the Twin ARB compressor mounted in the back of the 200 series, runs both the Airlockers and pumps up tyres fast

Yeah, for sure. I should have said I was talking about the older model CKMA12, not the twin.

I still use my super cheap auto one that I bought well over 5 years ago..  If it broke tomorrow I wouldn't be fazed at all.

ARB CKMA12 for me.  Nothing to compare to, but for its compact size, it has impressive output.

I have a single arb compressor running twin lockers for the last two years never missed a beat and fills my tyres 35's from 18psi to 42 in 3 minutes I time it so I don't have to check till the end. But the twin air compressor is the ducks nuts my brother can fill 3 of my tyres while I fill one.
Its on my wish list but hard to justify when the one I have is running fine

Same with mine, takes ages but still works..

I am looking around for a cheapie to do the air mattress and the other 3 tyres while my slow one does one tyre.. hahaha
would love to put an endless air one on.

I but the bullet at Penrith Camping Show yesterday and bought the ARB CMKA12 air compressor at a show price of $250.

Now to find a place to install. I have a 4.2 inter-cooled Nissan patrol and not much room under bonnet.

Has anyone installed under seat or in side pocket of rear drawers.

Ideas on pros & cons would be appreciated.

Mine is located down the side of my drawer unit. I mounted a piece of timber on the seat mount and bolted it to that. It runs the front air locker and has a point that is plumbed to the rear just under my drawer unit.

Shakey good choice of product but you will find the unit far more useful if you do NOT install it in your vehicle and instead have it portable.

Stick it in a plastic toolbox and you can move it from vehicle to vehicle and not have to carry it around when you are not using it...you might even lend it to a mate...

I have the same compressor, I have mounted mine under the seat in my GU and never felt it has decreased usability. I will say that having 2 hoses means that I dont have to be super close to what ever it is I need to use the compressor on (the second hose is not expensive)

I have used mine on the boat trailer, camper, other peoples cars (people at work think its kinda strange that I have a compressor in my car all the time)

The other advantage I find in having it permanently mounted, is that all I have to do is grab the hose, plug it in and flick a switch. I dont have to pop the bonnet, clip aligator clips on etc etc.

JMO but personally I prefer to have it mounted.

Mine gets used across several vehicles and lent to others... impossible to do with an installed device... sometimes even in the one convoy

I was looking at the ARB cattle dog last night and noticed they market a Bushranger brand compressor. I assume it would be a cheaper price .
Do we have any experience with this brand. I would think it would be ok or ARB wouldn't sell it.
