I want to run a theory I was given past you all.
The authorities want no bull bars to be fitted to cars. Something to do with pedestrians being hit etc etc. I was also told they are trying to develop air bags for the front of cars for the pedestrians when they are hit.
So, with this in mind, do you think the car makers are going to do everything they can to make designing and fitting a bull bar really hard?

that doesn't even come into it..

to be honest, those that wish to put a bullbar on their vehicle are a very small market in comparison to those that don't. a vehicle make builds for the masses, not the niche.

they will make changes for country specific design rules however.

I actually dont mind it. I do own a 150 already though. Not sure how a bullbar will go though, thats a huge/grill headlight area to cater for.

Unfortunately the primary market for'real' 4x4s is becoming the 'eastern suburbs mums taxi service'.  Those who wish to use them off-road are getting to be a smaller minority.  Even among the 'Nomads' it is relatively few who venture away from the sealed road caravan park route.  Therefore it is getting harder to source a vehicle which is genuinely 'suited' to our purposes. And, with the increasingly tough design standards / greater complexity of design and construction, it is harder / more $$$ to produce after market bolt on solutions to our purposes.  :(

B&B... there are more 4WDs from more manufacturers that EVER.

Look back to the mid 1980s and we had Land Rover, Patrol, Cruiser, Jackeroo, Pajero and that's about all. It's easier now than every to find a vehicle 'suited to our purposes' (whatever that means...?)

Pathfinder was the first vehicle styled for the recreational market (penned by Nissan Design in CA and launched in 1986) and Pajeros - the ones with the big sunroof and velour trims - were being called 'mum's taxi' in 1993...!

We'll all get used to the new Prado!

I would have preferred that they overhauled the D4D than simply facelifting the 150  >:(   Unfortunately, that just aint gonna happen!
Too many trips on the to-do list, not enough time...

I saw a white Kakadu on the road the other day, it actually looks better in the flesh, but still not as good as the 120 :)
