Hello all,
I need to change my shocks out on front and rear as mine are on there way out. Should I just replace with genuine or go after market. I want good value for money. The prado is just a 150 GX. Please recommend good place in Perth for good price.

Bilstein? Gee I would like to know how much the genuine ones are... Probably double the price?

My father in Law has a 150 Prado, absolute pearler of a machine.
He purchased it when they first came out to be his touring vehicle. From new he had a 2" lift with Dobinsons coils, and Bilstein shocks installed. He also has airbags.
He has crossed the Simmo, Canning, and been to the Cape via OTT, and a few trips to Fraser.
He has had zero problems with his setup, and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

+1 For Bilstein
Cheers,
Mick

I can get second hand brand new ones (set of 4) of gumtree for around $300 from people who have gone and put 2inch lift from new.

A swagger can have my set (GXL TD) for a bottle of Glenlivet 12... Only about 5000km before i put the lift in. Pick up near Canning Vale. Pm if you interested.

If you can organise someone to do a swagmail....................

I have a full set, allmost brand new- they've done about 50km's.
All yours, no charge, but I live in Sydney.

If you can arrange transport, take them.

Cheers

how do you know they are on their way out?

if you have no intention of doing anything off road, the standard shocks and springs will be fine. $300 is a good price.

Hey Silvo,
They have oil wheeping out on all four. Not really doing major off roading. Just the odd gravel roads. I can't lift it due to my car space and it being used in underground carparks. I have airbags on the rear for towing camper. Was looking at something like tough dog or old man emu but not sure what I should be paying?

Samstruck

Hey Brian and Darren,
Are your front shocks still pressed in springs???
Samstruck.

Silvo

oil weeping out of them should be warranty in my opinion.

this should give you an idea.

a quick ebay search puts tough dog basic suspension replacement at about $1200.

I've lifted mine (45mm), and I have roof racks permanently mounted, and i have no problem with underground car parks.

Cheers for that Silvo, my prado is Aug 2009 so it's out of warranty.

No... I've got springs too but the lift uses some of the same hardware I believe. It's a careful job with a press or get a garage/suspension shop to do the fronts. Spring compressors on a diesel front coil over just aren't upto the job in my opinion.

Bilstein shocks and king springs are the best upgrade I've made to the Pathfinder so far. I agree with the comments above, spring compressors from Supercrap etc. just aren't up to the task.take out the strut assembly as one piece, find someone with a press and slip them a six pack to do the front struts. Doesn't take long. You should be able to do the rears with a jack, some axle stands and a pry bar.
