Good luck mate, hard decision. Sometimes you need a leap of faith.

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?  (Homer J Simpson).

You need to do what best for you I think there is a quote along the lines "No one on their death bed every said they wished they had spent more time at work".

Mark, after having a little time off to smell the roses, I totally agree..................but are you asking my swag, should I take the job, or telling us you are taking the job and heading in the right direction for a great retirement. :)  Sounds like there could be some great (cheaper) spots to stay in Cairns.

Geoff

Start Monday the 9th Sept. Just tidying things at work at the moment and will take it easy next week.

Have ordered some led light strips, plugs etc to start getting the camper the way I want and even ordered another 80 litre water tank and may even look at a new box for the front of the camper.

That way I can head off for a weekend camping at the drop of a hat.

I reckon you've got a perfect personality for that kind of work Mark. If you can lead 25 my swaggers up the Cape, body corps should be a breeze.

Bill

Good on ya Mark.
Best of luck with the new job.

I say go for it and good luck to you.

We decided a couple of years ago that the second half of our life is about our kids and us.

No worrying about how we look, we dont need the best house, new cars, best of every material possession.
We need a good quality of life, happy well loved  kids, holidays, no stress, no long working hours, being content with the little we own, all that sort of thing :)

Working long hours and missing my kids growing up just to keep banks wealthy so we can look better is a thing of the past, that much i am certain of.
:cup: well said mate.

Well done Mark ,I too am 52 in a couple of months and did the same thing a couple of years ago less hours less money and no weekends or maybe one Saturday a year best decision I have ever made the only trouble now is trying to work out how to do even less and to make my super magically double so I can forget about work even sooner .

Buy the way happy birthday   Troy

I changed roles about a year ago now don't do any weekends and I am home by about 3 most days a bit less coin but a company car helps bridge the gap. Happiness and less stress makes up for the rest.

I use to do big days, big weeks and big months when I was working for my old boss. Be away from home for up to 6weeks to get home for a day or two and go again. Big coin too but flipping big days Truckin. Now I do 7 and 7 and love the down time, still away from home but only a week at a time. I'm earning only around 2/3rds of what I use to but the family time makes up for it.  Oh but the waist line doesn't like it but that's a story for another day.

Great choice to give you and your family more quality time.
Don't complain! It could be worse, you could be six foot under or a brick of ashes!!
