Maxxis tyres

Shopping for tyres & considering Maxxis brand.
Will be mainly on bitumen with some dirt .
Anyone have suggestion as to which tread ....... 751 or AT700 ?

Got the 771's on the Paj and love 'em. Got a set of Buckshot muddies in the shed too  ;D

I had the AT-771 bravos on two cars. First a 2002 ford explorer. Wore fantastic and very quiet tyre. Awesome traction for such a heavy SUV.
But where they really showed their true colors were on my RA rodeo dual cab.
I had them due to the fact I really didn't want to run a mud terrain at the time and off road they were great. They cleared very well for an AT and when aired down provided awesome traction, even with the relative light weight compared to the explorer.

I got great wear out of them and would recommend them to anyone considering an all terrain. In fact I have already to Mandrake and a few others I know off of here.
If Mrs Evo still has her D22 when its due for tyres then it will be getting the 771's.
For sure there are other brand tyres out there that will do exactly what the maxxis do, possibly even more. BUT I doubt that for value for money they would beat the maxxis.

751 ( I think ) on my Prado great traction, quiet and have done over 80k on them and still plenty left in them would definitely get another set when due for replacemnet

With Maxxis nothing less than the 771. I had a very "enlightening" experience with 751's on the 'Cruiser ute by way of a complete loss of traction caused by a low range 1st complete compression lockup on a 30° dry grassy slope on our property. I've now got Maxxis Bighorns (not sure how they'll be on sand?) & can get some places in 2wd with them that required 4wd with the 751's. As the pics show there's still about 50% tread on them. Dunno what to do with them?

We have these on our council fleet.  Because they are cheap. And they perform to their $$ value.  Wear quick and balance issues.  I call my ranger 'old shakey'.

If you didn't know the AT700 & AT771 are the same tyre.  the AT771 is exclusive to Bob Janes.

Our Pajero had HT760's when we purchased it and got around 65,000km out of them.  Looked at getting the AT700's in LT as the replacements, but the Bridgestone D964LT's were only $10 per tyre more, plus Bridgestone were doing bonus $100 fuel cards when you purchased 4 tyres.

The father inlaw has the 751's and after 4 years seem to be wearing well.  Although is offroading these days only extends to putting around his paddocks.

No, i wasn't aware they were the same tyre. thanks for that.
Tyrepower have a $50 fuel card at the moment for 4 tyres & the guy offered me a "good" used free, as a spare.
However, it's not REALLY the price that i am looking at. If I am gonna spend big money then i prefer to get something that's gonna last, whether or not they are well known brand or lesser known.
I had heard one opinion on the Maxxis & wanted to hear more. I appreciate all the replies.

751 Maxxis AT's were fitted on my bus from new and they did 55K kms before I replaced them and the wheels.
Wore evenly, little road noise, never needed rebalancing, were a good all round tyre I thought.
They still had another 15-20K kms left in them when I sold them with the wheels.

If it's not dollar driven, I'd go the Bridgestone's.  Plenty of positive feedback on them, excellent wear (reports of 80-90,000km) and puncture resistance.

I have had a set of AT771 (700's) for about a year now.  Been a great all round tyre - good wet grip and tracking on dirt roads and provide a great ride on the highway too.
My decision was based on much research and came down to these or the D697 bridgetones. Other mainstream brands had horror stories, but that's a whole other story!   I could not find any bad reviews on the 771's out there, and this is pretty much backed up on this thread too (751's excepted).
Also, at the time and in the size I was after, there was a fair price difference (read: $110/tyre more up here).

OK, I have had a rethink on tyres.

My present rubber (Dunlop 255 17 16 AT20) that came with the vehicle (new), have only done 35,000 klms & the spare has never been on the road.

I have therefore decided to buy 1 x same tyre, fit the spare & new tyre on the front.
There is plenty of meat left on the rear (having just rotated).

The reason I considered new rubber was probably overkill in relation to a trip to Port Lincoln travelling thru NSW.... Bourke/Wilcannia via Louth (dirt road) then after touring the Yorke Peninsular  detouring from Clare to Wilpena Sound then returning home via Port Augusta/Alice Springs.

So I figure with such low mileage on the present rubber, just bring the unused spare into use with a new tyre as most of the trip will be on bitumen, then assess the new tyres after the trip.

Thanks again for your opinions & suggestions & rest assured I DO take them into consideration & will now have ammunition for my next purchase.
