Hi everyone.
Having a bit of trouble with the other half about spending the money on putting another battery in the POD. I say we can't go away without it- e.g. lights, extra cooking facilities, etc.
She says- so what- buy a lantern- don't need it.
Could you please help by explaining the features of having that extra battery/power when we are away.

Just through in a couple of references to Gigawatts and flux converters etc, should be right then.

Get her along to a few Swag meets and she will soon see the advantages of 12V in the camper.

What are you taking in the way of camping gear. Do you have a fridge etc?

Yes we have a Waeco fridge/freezer. Other gear accumulating now. Would like power for lights, tv, mobile, computer and anything else i can think of- hot water etc.

Maybe convince her that the extra battery power will support things that she is interested in... If she is like my partner, she may not care for your lights, tv, mobile, computer etc when camping.

HWS driven by 12v are very thirsty on amps. Instead of 1 extra battery you may need 2 depending on how often it is used.

I would be working out exactly what I want to run off the batteries/ battery.. The average amp draw, then what form of charging system you want. Solar.., generator,. Etc... How much power you can put back into the system while away.
Then decide will that cover the average length of a trip away for you...
That should tell you how many amps you need to "carry"
Once that's been assessed, then I normally just explain ... It's a safety issue... Gotta have a second battery on the LHS of the camper to balance the weight for the cool gismo thingymajig I got last week and fitted to the right hand side...
It's all about safety... Honest.
