Well the cruiser had all of a sudden started making a clunking sound and after going to 2 mechanics the bearings at the bottom of the motor went putting metal shavings through the motor.

The verdict a re conditioned motor plus the radiator was not the best. Total cost $11,000  :'(

The mechanic said the damage to the motor was too much to rebuild and it was better to get another.
After the initial shock and adding more money on top of spending the $11,000 to buy another cruiser I decided to get it done.  :'(

The mechanic said everything else is in great condition with the car. At least I will have the cruiser buried with me in the future. It only had 136,000 on the clock.

We are not sure how it happened but it did and it will be ready in a weeks time to give it a good run in before the Gulf Trip.

Donations can be sent and tax deductible  ;D

Bugger!

That sucks mate - I really feel for you. Still - it could have been worse if it let go half way across the gulf. At least you get to repair it on your terms. Not much comfort given the $$$s involved, I know. All the best with the rebuild.

Cheers,

Did the mechanic shed any light on why the bearings failed so early in life?

Ouch...thats gotta hurt...

Between you relying on your cooking for your beer supply, and relying on JK's singing  for money for the plate, you are in for one LONG trip.......

BUT then again...if I planned this correctly...........I might have a talk to Kerry.........we might just take along a camper of beer and $2- coins...for that we won't have to prep, cook, wash up, and we get evening entertainment.......there maybe something in this....... :cup:

I'll get back to you......

For every situation you have 3 choices. Live with it, change it, or leave it. But only pick one

You would almost think a partially blocked oil pickup screen limiting flow but not pressure.

Ouch!

How long have you owned it?
With just 136Kkm in 13 years, it may have had lots of short trips and if it hasn't had its 'severe use' servicing every 2500 or 5000km (?) an autopsy might show the oil pickup to be blocked due to sludging etc

The problem is I could get a motor from Brisbane cheaper but with freight and warranty it was not worth it. I will be talking to the owner of the mechanic business when he comes back from holidays on Monday regarding the price. The old motor has been taken out and the new one will go in today or Monday.

"The mechanic said the damage to the motor was too much to rebuild and it was better to get another."
but I'd be interested to see what was damaged beyond repair.

Anyway, time is an enemy and getting things wrong is ****ed if your not a mechanical kinda bloke. Some of us have to suffer and pay up the coin :(
