Hey all, as I'm in the market for my first CT can someone tell me whats the go with some manufacturers annexes having a pvc/velcro floor in them and some have none and people then resort to that green shade cloth looking flooring? Whats it called and is it a better option? Obv it would be as far as grass killings concerned but i meant more from a comfort and practicality point of view? Is it a factor to not buy a certain brand/type of CT just because it doesnt have a pvc floor option?

Cheers.......Glen

Hi, just my personal choice.
I like the shade cloth floor as sand and dirt can fall through it before you get into the main tent.
But each to their own.....
I also like port.....
lol

We have a shade cloth floor in our annex which came with the CT.  We find it great as any water just flows through, nothing to wipe up.  Also seems fairly hard wearing.  We're never too worried about what we have on our feet or what we put on the floor whereas with a PVC type floor (like we have in the main tent) we are always a bit concerned about poking a hole in it and taking our shoes off before going in there.  We just throw it on the ground, don't even bother pegging it down.  I think it would be a bit of a pain velcroing in a floor but have no practical experience with one.

The green shade cloth is called Oztrail Ultramesh http://www.oztrail.com.au/WebPage.gtl?product=UM-0808?currentgroup=ZZZ020?currentsubgroup=MESH We put this down under our main tent floor to protect it from sticks and stones (and we also rake the ground first).  We used to have this with our tents and is years old with no signs of wear and tear.  The C-Gear matting gets good reviews but is a lot more expensive.

Good luck with your search

I can't understand why anyone would want a PVC floor in the annex area. I'd take a guess that the first examples came from overseas, where they had no clue how we use our campers.

CGear is fantastic, though it can be very slippery when wet. I've had shade cloth and also perforated rubber mat, both also good.

Our CT came with an annexe floor, however its still folded neatly in my garage where it will remain until the day we sell the camper for an upgrade. Green shade cloth straight off the roll at the hardware. Works a treat. I also have a smaller piece of shadecloth that i lay down between the camper floor and the ground when setting up. Just helps keep the crap off the softfloor.

Yep. And it's still growing.

Although the heavy dew is a shocker at the moment.

Oztrail Ultramesh various sizes 30% off this weekend. I just bought the 12x12 for under my touring tent, cheaper than buying it from Bunnings so I don't care about putting pegs through it.

like others, my camper came with a poly (tarp style stuff) floor, with velcro all the way round. Used it twice, its now taking space in the shed. I replaced it with oztrail mesh, excellent stuff.

I think you really want something that will allow water and sand to fall through, the mesh does this a treat.

I was planning on doing this again however the Oztrail special I posted above is cheaper than buying the shadecloth off the roll at Bunnings, plus it is edged and has eyelets.

I went with the cheaper Oztrail Ultramesh too.. stuff has been brilliant from Fraser, Robe, High Country and through the Flinders. Like D4D, pegs thru it don't worry me.

Is that the same as painting concrete green ;D

Hefty

I made my own with a 3.6m wide pieces of 75% blckout shade cloth from bunnings doubled over to make a 1.8m wide mat the length of my awning. 5cm hem all round with a cheap sewing machine and brass eyelets in the corners for pegging. About half the price of the same size c gear Matt for only a little extra effort.
Cheers!
Jono.

Edit: oops didn't see the oztrail mesh deal above. Go with that if it's cheaper than diy!
