What is it worth?

My neighbour a few doors up is selling his 2007 Jeep and i want to buy the Thule roof rack thingy off him.

They would be perfect for strapping the ol Max Traxs to for my attempts to cross Inskip Point in one go.

What would be a fair price for a second hand set? 

Its just two cross bars that clamp to the existing bars that run lengthways on the roof. They look to be in good nick with a key and all that.

Nothing wrong with Thule.
I have had mine for 7 years, never taken them off and I have no complaints about them.
I reckon $100 is fair.

I recently had a set of Rhino racks given to me by the dealer I bought the Dmax from, the type that clamp to the roof. They are Shit, they whistle and are very noisy compared my Thule racks. Where they hold onto the roof is shocking to say the least and there is no way I would put 10kg up there, let alone the max load.

Thule had released a fitkit for the Dmax but withdrew it due to problems, they have since redesigned the whole thing so it fits along the door jam and tucks under the top roof lining.

I would ask the guy what he wants for them, let him set the price and work from there, you might get lucky and pick them up[ cheaper than you thought.

I wouldn't worry what they are going for on Evil Bay ... as that isn't really an indicator of what they are worth, just what someone is willing to auction them for.

Find out how much they are new.  Deduct 10% for each year they've been on his roof and an extra 10% because you can.

Then ask him if he'll take that.  If he won't, then to him they are worth more.  Barter with him until you get to something a little more than they are actually worth (see 10% clarification above) ... when you are both happy ...

That's what they are worth.
