gidday all great site , i am pretty green to the camper trailer bizo ,i am looking at buying one at the moment my tow is a98 nissan pathfinder 3.3 L because its my first what should i be looking at semi off or off road with electric brakes or not what trailer weight with my pathy and wot sort of tent  the ones im looking at are 14oz ripstop , i dont know if this is good or not i im only looking at campers around the $6000 mark any info to help me would be great cheers john

Hi Vicster, welcome to "The Show", hope you enjoy the ride.

Brakes are required [in NSW anyway] for CT's over 750kgs. Some manufactures construct their's to just under the limit but IMHO you probably still need them when they are fully loaded.

Welcome Vicster.  Good luck with your search for a CT.  If you are only planning to do CPs and the odd NP, you won't need a full on off-road CT.  If you are planning on doing the Cape or similar, you will obviously need something a bit more solid.  A 14oz ripstop tent is normally an imported tent.  Not as robust as Aussie canvas but lots on here are more than happy with these tents.  $6000 will buy you a new imported CT or a second hand locally made camper.  Suggest you get out and have a look at a few camping shows to give yourself a better idea of what's out there and what you may need.

As many have said you do need to look at the difference between any ripstop and Aussie (Dynaproof) canvas.
What suits one may not suit another.

Could be worth hiring a couple of campers if you are not sure what you want.

As you will have found out there are endless options and what suits you may not suit someone else.

If you are mechanically minded (or if you know someone who is) have a good look at the trailer construction, other parts can be modded or changed easily enough as long as the foundation is solid.

Good luck in your search, a quality used camper would be a good option I reckon.

There are no wrong decisions, buy well, give it a go, change it if you decide it doesn't suit your needs.

Hiring is good, but camping with others is also a great way to see different brands, features etc.

thanks for all the welcomes i did think about hire camper trailers but theres not much in the geelong area  most places i will be goining in it will be sw vic so bit of a hassel going to melbourne then back again to drop it off , anyways like the idea of having one ready to go , i have done some research on cheaper brand campers  ie mdc , ezy,mars ,gic,and at this stage im leaning twards ezytrail from what ive read on this site and others a lot are pretty happy with them and you seem to get alot for your dollars ,im a spraypainter panelbeater so i will prob stonegaurd under it and respray the whole thing again just to make sure it anit going to rust also when ido this  will change the seals on tailgate and top section that foam they use is just crap and maybe a rewire from what ive read the wireing and tank hoses arent to flash,  by the way had alook in the camper builds awsome thers some talet in that lot, let yas know how im travelling with it cheers john
