Ok, I will admit to being very lazy here and, rather than do my own investigating, I thought i'd just throw it out there to forum members.

Can you name a great camping spot for us and our Pathfinder & OB Eagle for Easter? Doggie will be staying at home this trip. :-(

Criteria:
3-4 (possibly more) hours from Newcastle.
Somewhere to use the kayaks (river, lake or sea)
no power required
can use our own hot shower but need toilet facilities.
Not ridiculously crowded (or totally booked out)

Thanks in advance for all your input!

Apart from the ones whole hog mentioned, the only others I can think of right now are:

Lake Lyell (near Lithgow) - about 3 1/2 hours, though it's probably busy like everywhere else over Easter. It's also relatively close to the Blue Mountains and lots of other great places to go sightseeing or 4wding. The Gardens of Stone NP and the Lost City, Glow Worm Tunnel, Jenolan Caves, Zig Zag Railway etc... if you feel like taking a break from relaxing and kayaking ;D

Dunns Swamp (near Rylestone) - I haven't been here, but don't let the name fool you, it is supposed to be beautiful (if it's anything like the rest of the Gardens of Stone area). Great for kayaking. It will be pretty full over Easter though and I'm not sure how many sites allow camper trailers. Maybe one to keep in mind for another trip.

If you do happen to find the rare and elusive non ridiculously crowded camp spot over Easter, I'd be interested to hear about it...on the QT of course ;)

Chichester State Forest you have west and east side of barrington tops, but not sure about boating on the river.

Its free but can get busy esp long weekends, great 4wd tracks through the mountains.

Its a couple of hours from newie.....

Myall Lakes near Tea Gardens is only down the road for you. There is Nat Parks camping and a private camp on the River that I think was called Riverside camp, it's a big campground anyway and lots of space for CT. All will be busy over Easter though with the reasonable weather predicted.

I can thoroughly recommend Seal Rocks Caravan Park. Very basic but fantastic location.

As said...everywhere will be packed at Easter....unless you head west....the further the better, but there are many places out there that might meet your criteria...

Along the river near Bingara....short 5 min drive into town for the dunnies though..

Any number of places along either the Murrumbidgee or Darling rivers

Kings Plains nat park

The Gorge ..up near Copmanhurst

Treachery Camp - Seal Rocks

Open form camping and fires permitted. Close to beach and bonus of 4WDing on Lighthouse Beach just up the road.
Kiosk with basic supplies; gas, ice. Hot showers, laundry facilities. Popular with surfers.
Probably booked out for Easter though.

The only annoyances were bush turkeys getting into all your stuff, and dingoes (keep an eye on the kiddies)

Well, can't get organised enough to get away, bummer. But thanks everyone for your great ideas, I have googled them all and they will all be put "on the list".

Happy Easter to you all!

I'm staying in Port this weekend, so we're going to drive up there tomorrow and show a few people around.
