Jeez, Jon, you didn't give yourself much room to work there! :'(
Hi Fizzie,
I had nowhere else to do things  :-[
Living in a caravan park at the time, I was lucky the own of the park allowed me to have it stripped down under a tarp while I did the interior. All new black trim, gt dash, even an electric heater box custom made, so no hoses into the fire wall.
I'd always wanted an XY, came across this old girl(XW) in a paddock at Ashby, she was an auto 3.6 fairmont, with the factory hub caps on steel wheels.
When I had finished she was,
351 4v heads, 600 square bore Holley, I had a C4 in her to start with, but changed that to a Bullnose Top Loader.
I got hold of a 9"LSD out of a 77 landau with 2.75 gears, Disc brakes. Handbrake even worked  ;D
I had a set of Bathurst Globe Mags, Rear 15x10, Front 14x7 off my XC Fairmont.
She was lowered 2" all round, an excellent tour er.
I do miss it.  :'(
You don't use magic to disappear, all you need is a 4wd & a Swag ;)

The kindergarten that my grand daughters attend needed new frames to support their balance beams. My son kindly suggested that grandad could make them now worries.
Fortunately there was one intact example of the old stands which were all in a sad state of repair mostly because they are stored outside and their existing coatings had deteriorated to far for them to be safe to use. Just have to disassemble them again, sand and lacquer the components a few times then reassemble. Should be all good.

Yeah, I got dobbed in for similar duties at my grandsons pre-school a while back. There was supposed to be a couple of other people there to do the work as well, but when I got there, no-one else turned up :-( I spent two days there, repairing broken furniture, mounting wash stations at sinks, repairing playground equipment, removing a steel railing that was no longer required and painting the surfaces where it was removed, then pressure washing about 80sqM of pavers. It was two solid days of work, and probably the most work I'd done in 12 months. I was knackered afterwards. But getting a big thank you from the kids to "Jacob's poppy" was worth the effort.

At my other grandson's preschool "grandparents Day", we had to sit at the kids desks and help them make something out of paper. I helped him build a kick-ass paper aeroplane, that flew really well. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon building paper planes for all the other kids, who had formed a long line at our table. It was a bit embarrassing though.
4.2L TD Toyota Troopy, (Clarke's Country Camper Trailer, softfloor.) sold it and bought a Avan Ray small poptop caravan.

With our trip coming up soon I commisioned my home made tinnie lifter.
I needed an easy way of loading roof top tinnie (Seajay Nomad HS 3.5, 70kg), without the expense and added height of a boat lifter.
I couldnt see why the Dmax's winch couldnt do all the work for me, so set out to design a simple compact unit.
Slippery blocks are fitted to the canopy roof bars.
Using the bullbar to mount the frame I put some poly pipe over the bullbars 50mm top tube to protect it. The ropes deflection over the number plate is taken care of by some PPE fitted to number plate. Ideally you want steel or ali to run the Dyneema over, but seeing theres no load the PPE will do.
The frame is 8mm ali plate(with heat shrink on bottom sections to protect bullbar), tubes are 20mm ali and bolts are M8. It all bolts together flat for easy storage.
Once the winch rope is attached to the boats tag line I stand boat on its end. I can do it easily by myself, so with Elaine its a piece of cake.
The boat balances backwards till it is well past front bar, then it comes down gentle enough.
Unloading the boat is simply winching off and giving the tinnie a pull until it starts to over balance backwards, then letting it down with the winch.
Again once it is sitting on its end I disconnect rope and manually lower it manually down to the ground.
Ive got a Mangrove Jack trailer to tow it around on(they're a good bit of kit).
Doing it all solo was simple so should be no problems with just Elaine and myself, even when I'm old(er?) and knackered.
Very happy with the result.

Nice one. Necessity is the mother of invention...........and it looks a lot better than those stupid boat loaders do.

Give the Man a problem & then stand back as he solves it . Your standing back as it might not work well the 1st time  but it will work  .

Was going to work in the warmer lounge room, but figured using glue in there wouldn't go down too well, so backed the car out and made space.

I shortened the straps that go underneath on the caravan cover. The clips were about an arms length from the end which meant lying down and almost getting under the van to clip or release.  Now both ends are about 15cm long so should be a lot easier to handle. Silly thing is that the centre sections are that long that I didn't need to lengthen them at all, and they still have plenty of extra length.

Finally got around to pulling out one of the 2 blown headlight globes in my motorbike. Look to be a H4 globe. After some Googling and checking on the CBR forum turns out looks can be deceiving.... Standard H4 globes don't fit because the base is different enough to not fit, but similar enough to trick you into buying the wrong globes..... So off to the bank to re-mortgage the house so I can go into the Honda dealer and buy 2 globes

don't know what model CBR yours is, but I think H7 is a common CBR headlight globe.

Mine is a 94 CBR 1000f. Definitely not a H7, they do look identical to a H4. From what I am reading a H4 can be modified to fit but you have to cut the base a bit. The sticky-out bits on the base are at slightly different angles. Guys that have done this say its not worth mucking around and being a lazy bastard I'm inclined to do the easy!!

$40.45 per globe from the local dealer.... ouch! Still better than mucking around though

Hi all,
This thread reminded me of a place I came across about 20-25 years ago,  out somewhere around Picton / Camden way from memory. It was an old homestead that had workshops that taught old traditional trades. : blacksmithing, wheel wrighting, coach building, saddlery etc. They were into old machinery big time as well and restored old traction engines.
Does any one know of the place I am referring to and have a name, and if it still exists.
Love to revisit it when we get over there next year.
