Sunday pm just before we got home from the GOR camp my daughter took Zac the dog to our local leash free area where he loves to go. Now the people that have met Zac know he is just a gentle affectionate dog but some ignorant bitch was there with her dog that decided that Zac was to near the water container  and did this to him.

So far we haven't been able to trace the bitch or her dog down   >:( >:( >:( :'(

Please people FFS if you get a dog TRAIN IT PROPERLY so this doesn't happen, it could have been a kid

I reckon if I ever had another dog and took it walking, I'd either carry a hammer or chainsaw.

oh my.....poor boy I hope he's ok.

I like dogs but we had an issue when a staffy attacked my poor old Sether.............the owner didn't like it when I stepped in and kicked the Shit out of the staffy. I don't condone violence but if something or someone has a go at my dog or family well I will make sure we come out better off.

I hope you get the chance to have a chat and give her the vets bill.....at least.

Can you give Zac a pigs ear to chew on from us.....I will pay you back.

Cheers Nomad.

Some people shouldn't have pets. My neighbors fall into that category. Apparently a dog is something you chain up and only let off on bin night.
I hope your pooch feels better soon

Hunt that woman down... Your dog wont be happy in that area for a long time I would think, and would be very wary of other dogs.

I hate those lead free areas - for exactly the reason you have to put up with this misery.  I am glad your pooch is alive and with good owners who will make sure plenty of love repairs the damage.  We have been lucky enough to be near two large areas where our dogs could run and do the GSP thing (hunt).  I am now down to 1 (ancient 14yo male GSP) who finds a walk around the block enough exercise.

Nomad - similar experience with my first female GSP.  I saw another dog off leash down at one of the big parks with a lake and as she was fairly exuberant and would run at people (to say hello) i grabbed her and put her on the lead.  This plik of a mutt came running in on attack mode and was just about to latch on to her neck when I planted a size 14 into its ribs and lifted it 3 foot off the ground.  The lady owner wasn't too happy but when I explained quite firmly that my dog was on a lead and she should control her dog she walked off.

P155es me off that some people take offence when you react to their dog attacking yours.

Dogs are wild animals somewhat domesticated and will behave just like, well, dogs.

My previous border collie was one of the smartest, well trained, well behaved dogs I have ever seen.  It bit me down to the bone when I went to add a brisket to its bowl while it was eating.  Still have the scars.

This was my fault not the dogs. This same dog endured years of my toddlers pulling its ears, riding it, standing on its tail, dragging it around the backyard on its lead and all manner of annoyances.  ANY dog can bite given the right (wrong) conditions so don't be too quick to judge.

Hope your dog recovers well.

Hope Zac feels better soon.

My son unfortunately is one of those irresponsible dog owners, despite repeated suggestions/demands he not get a dog he ended up with a Staffy. At the girlfriends place at the moment but looks like it will fall back onto us to re-train a 1 year old Staffy to not chew everything under the sun, jump fences etc....

I will take ownership of the Staffy as I will not let him get off scott free.

Hey Xcavator,

Poor Zac   :'(  I hope he doesn't get all "every dog did this to me" when you take him out next.  It's a bit tough for you both at the moment, which isn't helping either I'm sure.  Very irresponsible of the other owner not to assist your daughter in any way possible.  If you see them again follow them home and let the council do the rest.

Do agree that Training is a very important (and often overlooked) part of Dog Ownership - and not just for the dog either.  I also agree that ALL dogs can be dangerous regardless of breed, size, temperament ... especially to other people and other dogs ... and sometimes their owners.   Education is often the missing key with pet ownership of any kind.  It's important that the owner and the pet are trained in acceptable behaviour from an early age (yes when they are soooo cute), and the owner understands the responsibility of having a pet FOR LIFE ... BEFORE getting the pet.  Perfect World stuff though.

We don't do "off leash areas" as I believe them to be a dangerous mix of the unknown for my dog.  You don't know all the people there, how responsible they are in regards to their animals (worming / needles / training / fleas) ... we've had Pavo in the area recently as well according to my vet ... and sometimes dogs react badly to each other for whatever reason.

I have a small map of my suburb and mark suitable doggie walks on it - it came from the local phone book.  I find it's often the dogs 'at home' that have the least supervision and I note those houses on my map so we can avoid them in the future (like the old dog up the road is often loose and she goes for you full old girl pelt).

Last thing I want to do is put either my dog or myself in harms way.

Exactly Lost our last Staffy was attacked by an aggressive one wouldnt let go of him so i punched it in the head about 50 times till it did .It was next to the water next step that i was taking if it didnt let go was to drag them in and half drown the thing till it let go.

After that i carried a small iron bar the wife said i cant do that but i was over dog owners not being responsible for theres.

Heres the funny part after Brock passed away a couple months ago i decided to get another staffy pup and it turns out the one that attacked my previous staffy is the latests father

Mate that's a nasty bite. Sadly there is no requiremnet of training for owning a dog (or kids for that matter) it's owner you want.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Glad your daughter is safe, but its a pity that she had to witness this act that shouldn't have happened. Hope that your pup recovers properly.

Bloody hell, that is terrible.

If it hasn't already been said, report this to the local Rangers, photos and all. At least this way they may patrol these areas for a while.

Hope Zac recovers with no lasting after effects, our girl has never quite been the same since she had another dog had a go at her.
Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.

bullfrog

I'll wager she will go back to the park with her mutt. I'd be going back too, but wearing the steel cap work boots. 1st kick for the owner, the rest for the untrained flea bag that done the damage.
I hope he makes a quick recovery mate.
