Ok a Question for all you legal experts, Can you park (short term a couple of days) an un registered but legal box trailer on the natuer strip, i have looked at council by laws and can see nothing there to say i cant, it does mention no parking of registered vechals but does not mention un registared ones. ???  ??? i need my drive way, where the trailer normaly lives to do some work in and dont have enough room, when i checked with the council they told me i cant park there but a quick drive around my area i found 6 or 7 trailers parked and chained to trees. Any opions welcome

Yep....even in the very rare chance that the council even knows it's there....as per normal government dept speed....it'd take them 6 mths to get around to acting on it !!! :D

Is it a 6x4 trailer? If so it doesn't have to be registered. However if you use it in the course of your employment then it has to be registered. I have seen tons of trailers on the natures trip and never ever contemplated booking anyone for it. I would go to your local council website and search under by-laws. If you can't find it, then contact council and ask where it is written. It's alright for people to say you can and others say you can't when they probably don't know the answer. Most council by-laws differ from each other. :police:

When the say you can't park on the nature strip, it doesn't mention anything about trailer. So they would have to have it in writing somewhere that they are referring to cars and trailers. However you can park a motorcycle and scooters providing there are not obstructing peds or other drivers. So why not trailers? My tuppence worth. PATR801 you should be on my side lol.

Just do it. In nsw I've seen unregistered cars parked on the street for years before council has put a sticker on it.
If you're only going to have it out there for a couple of days, by the time council notices, has some lunch then finds a pen to fine you three weeks have passed!
Otherwise what Fuji said.

In the City of Banyule they will leave a sticker on the car requesting it be moved for 7 days and then BYE-BYE. Leave trailer here, then I can use it.

If it's not registered how do they know who to fine?
Even if it's parked out the front of your property they can't assume that you own it.

In the Brighton area, it will have a fine on it before you can unhook it.

Mind you you're not allowed to park semi type trailers or prime movers in the street but box trailers?
Glad to help.

Just keep friendly with your neighbours - I had a cop living up the street from me, a very quiet street on a cul-de-sac and he threatened me with a warning for riding a push bike with out a helmet in front of my house, i in return called the council about his unregistered car which he was wrecking that has been sitting on his verge for over 6 months, they were out there within a week.

Could depend on your neighbours. If they dont want it there, they will complain, bringing Council in.
If they are OK with it for a few days, and you are no on a main road you may be OK.

Make sure you have a plan B, just in case you ask the question and the answer is no, they may start watching you..... :)

It's funny that front piece of land that we cannot use because its the councils but I have never seen them mow it once.

A pedestrian several years ago tripped on a path on the nature strip and sued Frankston Council.

The then beast mayor told them to sue the house owner not the council... Yet we cant do Shit with the footpath, driveway thru the nature strip or the strip.. ??? ???

If your neighbours are cool and you're not obstructing the street it should be fine.

However, if your neighbours are not happy, it doesn't take long for a ranger to show up and that sort of hassle we can all do without.

As some have said it depends on the council and whether they have included it in their by law or not.

Most councils would have it as its a common complaint for some reason.  From a Tasmanian perspective most Council's only act if there is a complaint from Mrs Cravitz about it and then Council must act otherwise the ombudsperson cracks it.

You can generally park a registered vehicle on the nature strip outside your OWN property but not another property.  Down here generally you cant park a trailer, truck or caravan on a nature strip for more than a few hours.

I draft this stuff at work and its the bane of my life.  Our Council enacted a by law simply to stop one bloke parking his tinny against the local wharf at xmas. I kid you not.  If you name the council I can check for you.

cheers

That is why the Council tow it away as an abandon vehicle
