Winch rope......10mm or 12 mm?

gday all.

i am going to change over from steel winch cable to rope. as i now own a patrol, would the 12mm be better or would 10mm be sufficient?

I prefer a thicker shorter winch rope as this enables you to use more of the winch's power for the recovery. I also carry another rope which I use as a winch extension. Once it is on the winch we're only talking about a difference of 5m or so anyway.
